The Texas Rangers are finding out how difficult life without Yu Darvish really is. Can they get back on track and cash on the MLB betting lines versus Tampa Bay on Thursday?
The Texas Rangers Can Win Because…
They are sending a starting pitcher with a microscopic ERA to the mound. Nick Martinez has an 0.84 ERA. He has been sensational this season, and while only one month of baseball has been played, it’s not as though Martinez has his really low ERA due to just one or two starts. He’s made five starts, and he has put up 32 innings of work. He has allowed only three earned runs in those 32 innings, which is just sensational. That’s the foremost reason the Rangers can expect to win this game. They have the right man on the mound in a season when starting pitching has generally been hard to come by due to the absence of Yu Darvish, the staff ace who was pronounced to have needed Tommy John surgery a month ago, naturally missing the whole 2015 season as a result.
The other real reason the Rangers could win this game is that they might be finally establishing themselves. They got torn apart by the Seattle Mariners recently – Seattle has done very well against the Rangers dating back to 2014 – but they have rebounded by winning two games at the American League West-leading Houston Astros. If the Rangers can take what they did in Houston and carry it here (they beat the Astros by scores of 2-1 and 7-1 in the first two games of the series), they can make some noise. What is notable about those two wins against the Astros is that they did not extend the bullpen – it should be fresh for this game just in case Martinez needs help.
The Tampa Bay Rays Can Win Because…
They are sending a very good pitcher in his own right to the hill, and he does well against the Rangers, unlike Martinez against the Rays. Chris Archer is the starter for the Rays. He has a 1.64 ERA on the season, and he’s pitched 38 1/3 innings, more than Martinez has. Archer has given up just seven earned runs in those 38 1/3 innings, marking himself as one of the American League’s foremost standouts through a month of play. Archer gives the Rays a very good chance in this game, which is why MLB Odds have made them home favorites for this game. What’s more is that while he has a 1.29 ERA against the Rangers in 2014, Martinez got roughed up by the Rays last year, carding a 4.50 ERA. If you had to choose between two very in-form pitchers in this game, take the one with the history of doing something against the given opponent.
The splits between these two pitchers against the respective opponents is what tilts the betting argument to Tampa Bay. Take the Rays with your MLB picks.
