Texas Rangers Pitcher to Lead

Saturday night features the hard-hitting Texas Rangers taking on the struggling LA Angels in an American League West showdown. Let's peruse the MLB odds and make some money!

Swinger’s MLB Record: 71-48, +21.11 units
Wednesday night was my latest attempt to navigate the treacherous waters of the Major League Baseball season. Unfortunately, our ship sunk when I included the Texas Rangers in my MLB Picks to score a victory over the pedestrian Seattle Mariners. The Rangers bowed 8-3 in that one and we decided to take the next few days off to get shake it off and get back on track.

Today I bring you the middle game of a three-game set between AL West rivals Texas and Los Angeles. Also, please note I have another MLB write-up that goes this afternoon between the Cubs and the Astros. Without further ado, let's get back to cashing!

Rangers Pitchers Slumping
Cole Hamels (14-5, 3.25, 1.31) will take the hill and try to get off what has been a collective funk amongst the Rangers' starting rotation. Texas's starting five of Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, Martin Perez, A.J. Griffin and Derek Holland went a combined 1-4 with an 11.70 ERA in their last starts with Hamels getting hammered in his worst performance of the season for seven runs and then chased before the second inning ended by the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Texas fell 14-6 in that game and Hamels had to be shaking his head after his previous outing where the same Seattle lineup crushed him for six runs in four-plus innings only six days earlier.

But if there is one constant about a long baseball season it's that things seem to even out and eventually good hitters start hitting and great pitchers begin pitching great again. The four-time All-Star and 2008 World Series MVP will eventually break out of this most recent funk but whether today is the day, is the question we would all like answered.

Betting Analysis
The MLB odds makers never make it easy. Here we have a pitcher who has gotten absolutely lit up over his past two starts yet he is still being installed at the north of -160. But there is a reason for that pricey number and it has something to do with the Rangers being the superior team and even more to do with the opposing pitcher tonight. Right-hander Daniel Wright will be the 15th starting pitcher for the Angels this season as their rotation has been decimated by injuries which have precipitated a revolving door from the minors to the major league roster.

The Angels claimed their most recent project Daniel Wright (0-1, 6.48, 1.80) off waivers on September 4th from Cincinnati and he will make his LA debut tonight. Wright has not pitched in a major league game since June 13th and as you can see by his record, was not exactly lighting the world on fire before being demoted to the minors. The kid is clearly not ready for primetime and here he will face a lineup that boasts the 6th best run production, batting average, and slugging percentage. Granted those bats have been rather quiet over the past three contests, averaging a meager 2.3 runs per game but like their pitcher tonight, they are too talented not to come alive at some point.

This is a perfect time for the Rangers' to rekindle those white hot bats and Cole Hamels will look forward to his redemption from his most recent efforts. Hamels owns a 9-3 road record and has a 2.54 ERA on the highway. I realize it's not easy to lay a big number on the road but the moon and the stars are lining up for the long, tall Texans to get well tonight.
