The Astros host the Rangers for a three-game set after Houston beat Texas twice last week. Can Houston stay hot and keep the Rangers' losing streak going? Let's examine the matchup in our Rangers-Astros picks.

The Astros are on a roll. They've won five of their last six and nine of the club's previous 12 games. Two of those victories were against the Rangers last week.

Meanwhile, the Rangers are on the other end of the spectrum. They've lost eight straight games and scored three runs or fewer in six of those defeats, including both against the Astros.

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Monday’s Rangers-Astros game (odds via BetMGM, BetRivers, and FanDuel; Pick confidence is based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Rangers vs. Astros Odds Analysis

The Astros are anywhere from -160 (BetMGM) to -167 (Unibet) favorites. They're receiving 85% of the cash and 72% of the tickets. The Rangers are as high as +143 (Unibet).

The total is 8 at most books, with some offering 7.5. The Over is getting 67% of the cash and 65% of the tickets.

Rangers vs. Astros Projected Pitchers

Martin Perez (10-5, 2.89 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) vs. Hunter Brown (MLB Debut)

Perez has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his nine starts since July 14. However, those two outliers both came against Houston. The Astros have put up 12 runs over 10 innings on Perez across his last two starts against them.

Hunter Brown is making his MLB debut for Houston. He's 9-4 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in Triple-A for Sugar Land. He's posted 134 strikeouts over 106 innings.

Rangers vs. Astros Moneyline Pick

Astros (-160) ★★★★

Nearly everything is in Houston's favor on Monday. The Astros are 12-4 against Texas this season, including 2-0 in games Perez starts. They own a 26-9 record over the last two seasons against the Rangers too.

The Astros are also riding a hot streak while the Rangers have lost eight in a row.

Brown making his MLB debut gives me some pause, but the Rangers are scuffling and Houston is red-hot. Ride the Astros at only -160 at home.

Rangers vs. Astros O/U Pick

Under 7.5 (-103) ★★★

Houston's bats broke out a bit on Sunday with nine runs, but that hasn't been the usual for the Astros. They scored four runs or fewer in six of their previous seven games, with five runs the lone exception. Perez is better than the five and seven runs the Astros earned off him the last two times out.

Brown has been great in Triple-A, and he's familiar with some of the Rangers' hitters. Texas is also struggling at the plate lately, so I’ll take the Astros in another low-scoring affair. The Under has hit during 10 of the last 16 meetings between these teams.

Rangers vs. Astros Prop Pick

Perez Over 4.5 strikeouts (+114) ★★★★

This line seems very low for Perez. He averages over five strikeouts per start, and that's climbed to over six in his last 10 outings. Perez has reached the five-plus strikeout mark in 20 of his 26 outings. He's also struck out six batters in half of his starts, including seven of his previous nine.

Houston doesn’t strike out a lot, especially against left-handed pitching. Perez notched five strikeouts during the last clash between these teams, but he recorded only two in his previous start against Houston. However, left-hander Reid Detmers also recently picked up six strikeouts against the Astros.
