The Red Sox visit the Yankees in the finale of their three-game series on Thursday. The Yankees are at -115 on the MLB odds board, the Red Sox are at +105 and the total has been set at 7.5.

Boston Red Sox

Last night the Red Sox suffered their worst shutout loss against the Yankees since June 27, 1991, when they also lost 8-0. Boston is now 2 games behind New York for first place in the American League East.

The Red Sox rank 13th in the majors with 276 runs scored, 4th with a .265 batting average and 26th with 56 home runs. Boston is 5th in the majors with a 3.83 ERA, 6th with a 1.24 WHIP and they're tied 3rd with 33 quality starts.

Mookie Betts leads the team with nine home runs and 33 RBI, Andrew Benintendi has eight home runs and 31 RBI and Xander Bogaerts has a team-best .324 batting average.

New York Yankees

After Wednesday's win, the Yankees are now 33-23, 2 games over the Red Sox and 2.5 games over the Orioles in the American League East standings.

The Yankees currently rank 4th in the majors with 298 runs scored, 5th with a .265 batting average and 5th with 85 home runs. New York is 4th in the majors with a 3.78 ERA, 3rd with a 1.21 WHIP and 8th with 29 quality starts.

Aaron Judge leads the team with a .321 batting average, 18 home runs and 41 RBI, Brett Gardner and Matt Holliday have 12 home runs each and Starlin Castro has nine home runs and 31 RBI.

Pitching Matchup
David Price (1-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. Michael Pineda (6-3, 3.76 ERA)

David Price will make his third start since coming off the disabled list because of inflammation in his left elbow and forearm. The left-hander allowed one earned run on three hits (one home run) and a walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings in Saturday's 5-2 win against the Orioles but he was 1-3 with a 7.89 ERA in five starts against the Yankees last season.

Michael Pineda had won three consecutive starts before taking the loss in last Friday's 7-5 setback against the Blue Jays, when he gave up five earned runs on 10 hits (two home runs) and two walks with one strikeouts in just five innings. Pineda posted a 4.50 ERA in four starts against the Red Sox last year but he has an impressive 5-1 record with a 2.31 ERA in six home starts this season.

Betting Trends

The Red Sox are 7-13 in road games when the moneyline is between +105 and -125, 1-4 in David Price's last five starts and  15-16 in road games.

The Yankees are 11-5 as a home favorite of -115 to -175 MLB odds, 18-9 in home games and 18-9 when playing against a team with a winning record.

Final Analysis

David Price pitched well in his last start but he has just 12 innings of work this season and the Yankees usually have his number, as he's just 14-10 with a 4.55 ERA in 36 appearances (35 starts) against them and the current New York roster has hit .296 (53-for-179) with three home runs and 23 RBIs against him.

I like Pineda to get back on track after his poor outing against the Blue Jays so I'm adding the Yankees -115 to my MLB picks
