Our resident MLB handicapping professional examines Tuesday’s game between the NY Yankees and Washington Nationals, sharing his predictions and MLB Pick o/u total run odds.
Yankees and Nationals Interleague Squabble
The Nationals will host the Yankees on Tuesday at 7:05 PM ET. This will be the first of a quick two game interleague series. According to the MLB betting odds at Wagerweb, Washington is a -125 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. Will the Yankees bats finally come alive after being ice cold in recent games? Can the Nationals continue their torrid hitting that they’ve displayed for an extended period of time now? Read this insightful betting preview article in order to find out.
The Yankees will send right-hander Nathan Eovaldi to the mound today. In four starts on the road in 2015, Eovaldi has posted a stellar 3.12 ERA. He’s also displayed decent form during his last three starts overall with a 4.12 ERA and 1.27 WHIP.
The Nationals will call upon veteran southpaw Gio Gonzalez for Tuesday’s starting assignment. Gonzalez has been in very good form during his last three starts, posting a solid 3.32 ERA, a 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio, and Washington went 3-0. Gonzalez has been superb in two starts at home this season with a sparkling 1.38 ERA.
Yankee Bats have been Silent
The Yankees are averaging a paltry 1.8 runs per game during their previous six, and five of those six went under the total. This will be the thirteenth time this season that the “Bronx Bombers” have faced a southpaw starting pitcher, and they’ve hit just .234 as a team in that role thus far. The Yankees bullpen staff has continued to do a splendid job, posting a collective 2.62 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
Sizzling Hot Nationals
After getting off to an extremely disappointing 7-13 start to the season, Washington has gone a terrific 15-4 in their last nineteen games. The Nationals have been swinging red-hot bats of late, going 10-1 over the total in their last eleven, and averaging a robust 7.6 runs per game during that time. As a matter of fact, the Nationals are 25-9 (73.5%) over the total during their previous thirty-four games.
Final Analysis and MLB Totals Angle
Something has to give tonight. The Yankees can’t hit their way out of a paper bag in recent games, and the Nationals have been tearing the cover off the ball during the past two weeks. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to dissect who the better team (Washington) has been of late. However, it’s just never that easy when it comes to sports betting. I’m going to rely on one of my reliable betting systems for this game when making one of my MLB picks on Tuesday.
Any team (Yankees) with a total of 7.0 to 8.5, hitting .225 or less as a team during their previous five games, versus an opponent that’s hitting .300 or more during their previous twenty games, resulted in that team going 38-9 (80.9%) under the total since the start of the 2011 season. That exact betting angle has also gone 16-2 under the total since the beginning of the 2013 MLB campaign.
