New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have lost seven of their last 10 games after being swept by the Athletics at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees did prevail in the series opener with the Rays but they're struggling at the plate and their starters aren't getting the job, which is a combination that spells disaster.

At the moment of this writing, the Yankees were 21st in the majors with 56 runs scored, 18th with a .239 batting average and 13th with 16 home runs. New York is 21st in MLB with a 4.32 ERA and 14th with a 1.28 WHIP.

Pitching Matchup
Blake Snell (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 3.06 ERA)
Rays top pitching prospect Blake Snell will make his major league debut against the Yankees. Snell passed through three levels of the minors last year, going a combined 15-4 with a 1.41 ERA.

The 23-year-old is expected to make this spot start and then go back to the minors. He is 1-1 with a 2.51 ERA in 14 1/3 innings over three starts at Triple-A Durham this season, striking out 21 batters.

The Yankees give the ball to Masahiro Tanaka, who has been their most consistent starter this season. Tanaka threw a season-high seven innings in last Sunday's 4-3 win against the Mariners. The Japanese right-hander gave up just three runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out six. He went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts against the Rays last season.

Betting Trends
The Under is 9-3-2 in Tampa Bay's last 14 games, including is 6-3 in their last nine games.

The total has gone Under in five of New York's last seven games. The Under is 5-2 in Masahiro Tanaka's last seven starts against American League East opponents and 6-2 in his last eight starts overall.

Final Analysis
The line for this game isn't available on the MLB odds boards yet but the betting trends support a lean on the Under and that's the best play here with a good pitcher like Tanaka and a talented prospect like Snell against two poor lineups that are not hitting the ball well. Tanaka will probably go longer than Snell, but the struggling Yankee batters will have a hard time figuring his stuff out for a while.

I'm taking Under with one of my MLB picks on Saturday.
