The Chicago White Sox travel to take on the lowly Philadelphia Phillies. Oddsmakers have made Chicago the natural favorite but is there any value in grabbing some plus money on the Phillies?

At this time of the season sometimes we get some games that have some value on them when both teams are out of the playoff picture. I believe we have that today.

Chicago White Sox
Chris Sale takes the mound for Chicago and comes in with a 3.03 ERA and 1.02 whip and has allowed just seven earned runs in his last three starts. There is no doubt he is one of the best pitchers in baseball and arguably the most dominant left-hander in the American League. However, this is all about value and the fact that Chicago is out of the playoff race so I am anticipating for the team as a whole to not be too excited about this matchup in Philadelphia. As well, although Sale has been stellar this entire season he is not immune to giving up a few runs here and there so I expect even the poor Philadelphia Phillies to find a way to score. Offensively Chicago is not been setting the world on fire the second half of the season and outside of a few good games over their last 10 they have not managed a lot of production.

Philadelphia Phillies
Jerad Eickhoff has had a quietly decent season with a 3.74 ERA and 1.20 whip with just a 3.40 ERA at home. The main issue for him is that he pitches for one of the worst teams in baseball, still over his last 10 starts he has been extremely good allowing just 22 earned runs in around 50 innings of work. As well, in that timeframe he has at most allowed four earned runs in any contest in which he did just twice so I expect for him to come in against a pretty weak Chicago White Sox offense and put up a lot of zeros. Even more recently in his last five starts, he's been extremely good allowing just 25 hits in just over 30 innings of work. Offensively, like Chicago, Philadelphia's bad but over their last 10 games, they have shown a little bit of life scoring four or more runs in half of those contests. Although they face a tall task today expect for them to score and probably enough to have shot at a win.

CH White Sox vs Philadelphia Phillies
Oddsmakers have made the Philadelphia Phillies a solid underdog across the board in all of the best books. For my MLB pick, I'm going to back Philadelphia as a good value play despite the fact they're facing such a tough pitcher in Sale. This game is meaningless to both teams and Eickhoff has pitched well recently, don't be shocked to see Philadelphia find a way to win this one.
