We are pleased to take advantage of the good value offered today by MLB odds makers on the San Diego Padres as they visit the road-weary L.A. Angels.
The Line & Travel
San Diego comes in at about a +120 underdog by MLB odds makers and that is good value as far as I am concerned. The Angels are coming back from a really long ten game road trip in which they went 5-5. It is never an easy for a team off of a long road trip to come back and be sharp and they just lost their last two in a row at Boston. I am looking for the Padres to continue some momentum after throttling the Dodgers yesterday.
For the Angels, Jared Weaver comes in with a 4.37 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He has had some tough luck this year giving up the long ball allowing 9 home runs in 9 starts. Also, his ERA so far is not a true value of his ability, he can still deal and in his last two starts at home he has been tough allowing only one earned run in 15 innings. Tyson Ross for the Padres comes in with a 3.93 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. His career numbers are better at 3.72 and 1.33, and he has been solid on the road this year with a 3.34 ERA. He is a very good strikeout pitcher ranking 9th in the major leagues with 62 K’s in 52 innings.
Not a lot of digging in the stats here as both teams rank from the middle of the league to the bottom in most offense categories. San Diego is a little better than the Angels in hits per game, runs per game, slugging percentage, and batting average.
With Weaver the line makes sense and the Angels should be favored, but I like the spot of this situation with Angels just coming back from a long road swing and the Padres bringing in the hot bats from yesterday. There is good value with MLB picks backing them on the plus money line.
