We have a pair of incredibly important playoff baseball games to be played on Tuesday. The outcomes are likely to shape how the series could play out and who will reach the World Series.

The MLB odds have both home teams favored, but that does guarantee how the results will be even if the visitor is only 7-18 in the postseason.

Houston and New York Outcome Shrouded in Uncertainty

The Astros still lead the series after Monday's 8-1 pounding and there are serious concerns about baseball's No.1 offense. Houston has rung up five total runs in the series after averaging 5.5 runs per contest in the regular season. The Astros would not be the first team to exit the playoffs when its offense went ice cold and they will try to solve the Yankees Sonny Gray (10-13, 3.65 ERA), whom they are 4-5 against in nine starts, but have taken the last three with Gray walking too many batters.

New York knows how good Houston has been on the road this season at 54-30, however, the Bronx Bombers are 55-30 in their building and since Sept. 2nd, Joe Girardi's guys are 17-3 at Yankee Stadium, including four consecutive postseason victories.

Lance McCullers Jr. has been selected as Houston's Game 4 starter because he is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in three career outings against New York. While McCullers has enjoyed success against the Yanks, since his back injury, his ERA is over 7 in four outings and has thrown without confidence.

New York is -138 ML favorite and they realize they are a couple hits from being up 3-0 in the series. For MLB picks, the Yankees are my choice.

Do or Die For World Series Champs

The Chicago Cubs are relying on their experiences of last year to help them, even down 2-0 in the series. Most thought the Cubs were done in playing Game 5 in Washington last week and in all the euphoria of winning last year's World Series, it is easy to forget they trailed 3-to-1 to Cleveland.

Being down 3-0 is an entirely different matter and Chicago will have the best starting pitcher, Kyle Hendricks (8-5, 3.05) taking the ball in a crucial game. It might not matter unless spots 2-4 in Chicago's batting order come out of hibernation. Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Wilson Contreras are pathetic 2-for-22 with 12 strikeouts.

The confident Los Angeles Dodgers will start Yu Darvish (11-12, 3.76) and are back to playing great baseball like they have most of the season, being winners of seven straight and 13 of 15. Darvish has a 1.04 ERA in his last three starts.

Depending on the sportsbook, the Cubs are -111 to -114 favorites and I will surmise their intense desire to get back in series and rabid fans will help, along with L.A. being 4-11 in road games after a 5-game span with an OBP of .375 or better will be the difference.
