Despite owning the best record in the NL, Arizona is an underdog on the MLB odds Tuesday going up against Clayton Kershaw and the visiting Dodgers.

LA Dodgers (12-16 SU, 16-12 O/U) at Arizona Diamondbacks (20-8 SU, 14-13-1 O/U)

Free MLB Pick: Diamondbacks +180

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3387889, "sportsbooksIds":[19,169,999996,118,1275], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

There’s no questioning who holds the title of ace for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw filling that role almost since he broke into the majors 10 years ago. But part of the definition for a staff ace is being a stopper and hoisting the team on their back when times are rough, and with six losses in their last seven games, the Dodgers really need Kershaw tonight when they continue the series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.

Kershaw (1-4, 2.84) is a heavy favorite to do just that in the 9:40 PM (ET) start that finds Arizona sending Matt Koch (1-0, 1.93) to the mound. 5Dimes is selling the Dodgers on a -190 money line, the take-back on the D-Backs +180 with a 7½-run total priced to the ‘under.’

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A.J. The win was the Diamondbacks’ sixth in seven matchups with LA after sweeping the previous series in Phoenix. The home side reached Monday’s 8-run total on their own, sending ‘over’ bettors back to the pay window for the seventh time in the last 11 games at Chase Field.

The Dodgers’ early struggles can be easily seen in the team’s 2-4 record with Kershaw on the mound despite his sub-3.00 ERA. Bettors following LA behind its ace have really felt the pinch, down more than $7.50 as the 2018 season turns a page to May. Los Angeles split his two starts vs. the D-Backs so far, losing in Phoenix as -155 chalk on the MLB odds and winning at home on a -205 money line, both of those matchups coming against Zack Godley. Koch is making his third start since being recalled from the minors and first career start vs. the Dodgers. The former Louisville standout saw them once from the bullpen in 2016, tossing one 3-up-&-3-down inning.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

We expect to see Greg Gibson setting up behind the dish to call balls and strikes this evening, the 21-year veteran umpire working the plate for the sixth time this season with the previous five running 1-3-1 O/U/P. The last six contests he’s been behind the mask in Phoenix, the ‘over’ has cashed four times.

It’s supposed to be a cloudy evening in the desert, but those clouds aren’t supposed to bring any rain and with temps in the low-to-mid 70s with a 10-15 mph SW blow (out to right), look for the roof to be open. I’ll be backing the home ‘dog for my free baseball pick.
