A half-game out of the NL East lead and a perfect 5-0 vs. the MLB odds with Nick Pivetta on the hill, the Phillies look for the series clincher Saturday vs. the Braves.

It’s like a Battle of the Bands and both the Braves and Phillies are covering New Kids on the Block songs. Their rosters stuffed with up-&-coming stars, Atlanta and Philadelphia continue their weekend series in the City of Brotherly Love with a 6:05 PM (ET) first pitch Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Odubel Herrera led the Phillies to their sixth win in the last eight games, slapping a couple of homers and driving in four of a 7-3 decision to begin the series on Friday. The victory lifted them to within a half-game of the lead in the NL East. Tonight’s tilt marks the third mound matchup of the year between Mike Foltynewicz (1-1, 2.77) and Nick Pivetta (1-0, 2.57), Heritage carrying the Phils -130 with 8½ for the scoreboard target.

Pivetta & ‘Under’ A Winning Combination

A rivalry that was born when Chester A. Arthur was president is seeing its first action in Philadelphia after two previous meetings this season took place in Atlanta. The Braves took both of those series two games to one, and now stand 8-4 in the last 12 meetings after losing Friday. The Game 1 ‘over’ winner leaves totals this season at 4-2-1 O/U/P; ‘under’ bettors returned to the pay window seven of the 10 meetings at CBD in 2017.

Foltynewicz has pitched well in two starts vs. the Phillies only to no-decision each time with the Braves dropping both games. The 26 year old allowed three runs in the 11 combined innings, striking out 15 along the way. He’s 0-2 in three career starts and a relief call at Citizens Bank Park, pitching to a 6.26 ERA (18.2 IP). Pivetta faced Foltynewicz in both of those games, also earning no-decisions in the Philadelphia victories with nine combined innings and four runs charge to his ledger. The Phillies have also won each of his three home starts, Pivetta posting a 1.89 ERA in 19 frames to leave bettors following him on the baseball odds up an even 5 units with four of the contests staying ‘under’ the totals.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Kerwin Danley is temporary crew chief of this group of umpires while Ted Barrett is away, and the Los Angeles native will call his seventh game of the season behind the plate. His first three contests behind the mask stayed ‘under’ while the last three went ‘over,’ with four of his last six in Philadelphia failing to reach the totals.

There is a 50% chance of rain in the Philly area this evening with temps in the 60s and a light NW breeze (in from left). I’ll ride Pivetta and the home team with my free MLB pick.
