Do we trust either one of tonight's starters in game two of the series between Toronto & Los Angeles? Not necessarily, but we do believe we've found good value with our MLB picks regardless.
As of now the Blue Jays are holding steady as -115 favorites at their own ballpark, with some sportsbooks even offering up a line of -120.
That means the Angels will find themselves as the underdogs on the MLB betting odds board, as oddsmakers have them listed at right around +105. If you're more interested in a total play, the O/U is at an even nine runs right now, which would suggest we're going to see quite a few runs put on the board.
Toronto Blue Jays (Sanchez)
A five-game losing streak finally came to an end in yesterday's series opener, as the Blue Jays offense exploded for 10 runs in a 10-6 win over the Angels. Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Edwin Encarnacion and Russell Martin all had big days the plate and combined for seven RBIs in the victory.
It was a much-needed victory for the Blue Jays, who have struggled out of the gate to a 18-22 overall record. They'll be hoping yesterday afternoon's win will act as a spark, as they get set to hand the ball over to young Aaron Sanchez in game two of the series tonight.
Sanchez checks in at 3-3 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.61 WHIP on the season, and it's been his command, or lack thereof, that's really let the young hurler down so far. He really struggled in Baltimore in his latest start, allowing seven hits and five earned runs while walking four and striking out just one over 5 and 2/3 innings. Can he bounce back at home tonight? He's gone 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA in three home assignments in 2015.
Los Angeles Angels (Santiago)
The Angels have been playing solid baseball, despite losing two in a row coming into tonight, as they've gone 8-4 over their last 12 games overall. They weren't able to get it done yesterday, however, as C.J. Wilson was shelled pretty badly (giving up 10 hits and four runs over 5.2 IP), with the offense unable to make up the difference.
Now we'll have another left-hander on the mound, this time in the form of Hector Santiago, who's 2-2 with a 2.41 ERA and 1.27 WHIP on the year. He's excelled over his latest two outings, surrendering a grand total of eight hits and one earned run over a 12.1-IP span at home against Houston and Colorado.
The southpaw, who has had his own issues with command at times, has clearly been on a roll, but he faces one of his most difficult matchups tonight in Toronto. The Blue Jays have been known to make life very difficult on opposing lefties, so Santiago is really going to have to be at his best here.
When we look over the MLB odds in search of value, we're inclined to take the OVER as one of our MLB picks for Tuesday.
We've talked about trust a lot when it comes to baseball, and we're going to harp on it again this evening. Santiago has posted great numbers so far this season, but there's regression coming at some point, and there's a good chance it could happen here against the loaded right-handed lineup of the Blue Jays.
On the other side, Sanchez has had a lot of trouble with his command, so even though the Angels haven't been all that good offensively this season, this sets up as a good opportunity for them to get some things going at the plate.
With that said, we are going to recommend that you back the two offenses by rolling with the OVER tonight.
