The Rockies improved 10 games last season to 74 wins, but no such improvement is expected this season. Find out how we believe the Rockies will perform in relations to their project season win total odds.

Colorado Rockies– Projected Win Total Under 76.5 wins – 5th in the NL West

Last year Colorado was 49-32 when they got starts from Jorge De La Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin and Tyler Chatwood, good for +16.2 units. However, when one of this trio did not start, they buried those making sports picks with 25-56 mark, losing -28.8 units.

Colorado decided to take a chance with former Oakland start Brett Anderson, who could be a plus if healthy but that is far from a sure bet and Coors Field has shook the confidence of more than one pitcher.

After having the worst bullpen ERA in the National League, it is a detriment wanting to make 41-year old LaTroy Hawkins your closer, since he’s never been great in that role, better suited as a setup man. The sooner 26-year Rex Brothers takes over, the better for the Rockies.

It’s a given Colorado will score, particularly at home with Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez, Justin Morneau and Willin Rosari. However, if this team is to show improvement another 29-52 road record will not cut it.

Game Notes

Travis Wood’s pitches found plenty of wood as Colorado hitters smacked him around for five runs on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Reliever Hector Rondon was even worse, tagged for six runs, failing to pitch two innings and two Rockies batters went yard on him among there four home runs.

Center fielder Junior Lake lost a fly ball in the sun and ducked out the way like he was going to be hit by a 50-pound ball.

De La Rosa tossed three shutout innings in Colorado’s 13-0 pasting and kept the ball low in the zone.

Second-year third baseman Nolan Arenado, who won a Gold Glove as a rookie, displayed his soft hands and confidence and went 3 for 3 with a home run.

Season Projections

It is going to come down to pitching for the Rocks like it usually does. This is one organization which seems to be satisfied with its pitchers annually, yet never has enough pitching. If the hurlers come through, they could beat the betting odds, but this is far from a sure thing deal.
