Our MLB betting odds guru breaks down AL starting pitching matchups today in the Tigers/Indians & Mariner’s/A’s. This insightful handicapping article concludes with free MLB picks.

Tigers vs. Indians 4:05 PM ET
The Tigers starter David Price is coming off by far his worst performance of the season. In last Wednesday’s start against the Yankees, he allowed a whopping 8 earned runs, on 12-hits, and in only 2.0 innings of work during a 8-4 loss. This will be the Tigers southpaw’s first start of the season versus the Indians. He made 1-start versus Cleveland in 2013, and that didn’t go very well. In that outing he allowed 8 earned runs on 10-hits and walked 3 in 5.0 innings. Despite going just 2-4 against the money in his last 6-starts overall, Price has displayed decent form with a 1.13 WHIP, and an almost 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

The Indians starter Corey Kluber has seen 7 of his last 8-starts go under the total, and he’s been a key contributor to those low scoring games by posting an excellent 1.48 ERA in those outings. As a matter of fact, Kluber has seen 10 of his 11-starts in day games this season go under the total, and he compiled a stellar 2.35 ERA in those appearances. Kluber has gone 2-1 against the money versus the Tigers this season, with a solid 2.66 ERA, and a 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Advantage: Kudos to the Tigers David Price who I believe is still one of the finest pitchers in the American League. However, I have to go with Corey Kluber in this one. The Indians hurler is 15-6 against the money over his last 21-starts, and has shown an extended period of dominate pitching over the last 6-weeks.

Mariners vs. A’s 4:05 PM ET
The Mariners Chris Young enters this start today on 9-days of rest. The veteran right-hander has gone a perfect 6-0 against the money over his last 6-starts with a very good 3.00 ERA, and that included 4 of those 6-starts installed as an underdog. Young has seen all 3 of his starts versus Oakland this season go under the total while posting a sparkling 2.50 ERA in those outings.

The A’s starter Jason Hammel has pitched a bit better in 3 of his last 4-starts, but his overall body of work since coming to the A’s before the trade deadline has been disappointing. Hammel has gone a dismal 1-7 against the money since coming to Oakland with a lofty 5.77 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. He’s been prone to giving up the long ball with the A’s allowing 10 home runs in 39.0 innings.

Advantage: Considering the fragile mental state of the A’s right now, the struggles of Jason Hammel, and the road success the Mariners have had this season, I’m going with the more consistent of the two pitchers in this one. It’s Chris Young of the Mariners over Jason Hammel of the A’s for my free MLB pick at Bodog Sportbook.
