Pitchers Keep Damage Minimal As Cardinals Visit Rockies

St. Louis Cardinals travel to take on the Rockies in Colorado, naturally odds makers have set this total decently high with the game at Coors field but both of these pitchers have been solid this season. Even in the thin air is this total set too high?

St. Louis Cardinals
Carlos Martinez gets the start for St. Louis and comes in with a 3.15 ERA and 1.21 whip but a 2.35 ERA on the road. He truly has been a road warrior this season allowing batters to hit just .213 against him when the Cardinals travel. However, he has not pitched at Coors field, the place where pitchers go to die, this season. Last year he did get the opportunity and was unfazed in his one start allowing just two earned runs off of eight hits in six innings with one home run. A couple seasons prior to that in his first start ever in Coors field he did get lit up but that was back in 2013 when he was a rookie. Recently he has been really good over his last seven starts with his only tough outings being at home to Chicago and surprisingly Atlanta. He has had 28 starts this season and just looking at his game breakdowns he really has only had two tough outings, and four semi-tough outings, with the rest of his games allowing a maximum of three runs in any of those starts. Coors field can be definitely a nightmare for pitchers but I like for Martinez to come in today and pitch decently well and not be fazed by the tough pitching environment. Offensively this will be the first time this season St. Louis has played in Colorado but in their only opportunity last season they only scored a combined 10 runs total in three games.

Colorado Rockies
Tyler Anderson takes the mound for Colorado and comes in with a 3.65 ERA and 1.26 whip along with a 3.04 ERA in Coors field. The rookie has pitched well this season although batters are hitting a lofty .271 against them at home. Still, that home field is in Colorado and the fact that he has his ERA hovering just above 3.00 speaks volumes. This will be his first opportunity to face the St. Louis Cardinals and he is looking to bounce back off of one of his worst starts of the year allowing five earned runs in just four innings at Arizona. On closer look, he has actually kept the run totals to a minimum over his past seven starts allowing 21 runs in 46 innings pitched. It seems he's gotten pretty comfortable pitching in the thin air and he should be able to come in and keep the Cardinals to minimal damage. Offensively Colorado is one of the best home hitting teams in baseball, because well, they hit in Colorado. They've had a recent surge over their past 10 games of high-scoring finals but they are susceptible to having some low-scoring games from time to time and I believe this is the type of scenario that will produce just that.

St. Louis Cardinals vs Colorado Rockies
Oddsmakers have come out with the total for this game at 11.5 across the board with higher juice on the under. Although I am not a fan of paying higher juice this is still good value in my opinion and for my MLB pick, I will back under the total like at Bookmaker -115where you can get a 50% Free Play Bonus.  I am also not a fan of backing any under in Coors field but this is a good spot in my opinion.
