Ross Benjamin has gone a stellar 4-1 with his totals selections over the past two days. He provides us with a betting preview article on Sunday night’s ESPN game between the Red Sox and Angels. This insightful piece is concluded with his pick on the total.

Red Sox attempt to avoid Sweep in Anaheim
The ESPN Sunday night MLB telecast this week involves the Red Sox and Angels at 8:05 PM ET. This will be the finale of their three game series. The Angels have won each of the first two games of the series, and both games easily went under the MLB odds total. My area of concentration in this article will be geared toward today’s posted total of 7.5.

Starting Pitchers
Eduardo Rodriguez has been a pleasant surprise for Boston since being inserted into the starting rotation. Granted the Red Sox were obviously high on their young starting pitching prospect. However, I don’t think anyone in the organization envisioned him to have such an immediate impact. He’s been especially good on the road, posting a microscopic 0.69 ERA in four starts.

The Angels Hector Santiago has flown a bit under the radar this season. The southpaw has a superb 2.41 ERA in seventeen starts. He’s been in terrific form of late, going 4-0 in his last four team starts with an exceptional 1.00 ERA, 0.74 WHIP, and a 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Santiago has gone 2-0 under the total versus Boston since 2014 while posting a sparkling 2.13 ERA.

Totals Reports on both Teams
The Red Sox have been shut out in each of the first two games of this series, and amassed just a combined 7 hits. Boston’s offensive numbers on the road this season have left a lot to be desired. Consider the fact that they have a team batting average of .255 on the year, but are at just .234 on the road, it clearly displays the disparity between their home and away offensive splits. The Red Sox are 21-8 under the total this season when facing a starting pitcher that averages 5 or more strikeouts per outing. Hector Santiago of the Angels is averaging 5.6 strikeouts per start in 2015.

After going on a torrid offensive stretch, the Angels bats have cooled a bit in recent games despite continuing on their winning surge. The Halos have scored 3 runs or less in five of their last seven games. However, it must be noted they’re still a sizzling 13-3 in their previous sixteen games, and their pitching has really picked up the slack of late. The Angels will also be facing a southpaw starting pitcher today (Eduardo Rodriguez), and they’ve gone 16-6-1 under the total in that role this year.

Final Analysis
In my professional opinion this has all the ear marks of a low scoring game, and that’s the direction I’ll be headed with one of my MLB picks today. 5Dimes has the best current price pertaining to making a wager on going under the total.

Free MLB Pick: Play on the Red Sox and Angels under 7.5 (-115) at 5Dimes.
