Both Robbie Ray and Brandon McCarthy have started out the season in nice fashion for the Diamondbacks and Dodgers respectively. Today they meet to finish up their four-game series in Los Angeles and oddsmakers have the totals set at 7.5 runs. After low-scoring affair yesterday will the bats break out today in L.A.?

Arizona Diamondbacks

Robbie Ray gets the start for Arizona and comes in with a 2.19 ERA in two starts this season both versus San Francisco. In his first outing versus the Giants at home, he got roughed up just a little bit allowing three earned runs in five innings but came back strong with a four-hit six-inning performance in San Francisco.

Last year against the Dodgers he had some really solid numbers with a 3.60 ERA and Los Angeles hitting only .172 against him in four appearances. His numbers stay strong in Los Angeles and the Dodgers are actually hit just .146 against him at home in his two starts last season. There is no reason for me to believe that he cannot come in and keep Los Angeles to a reasonable number. At the plate Arizona is one of the more formidable hitting teams in the league hitting .261 so far this early-season and ranking first in major league baseball averaging five runs per game. However, I think they have a tough matchup today against McCarthy who is been extremely strong so far this season.

 Los Angeles Dodgers

Brandon McCarthy takes the mound for Los Angeles and has been great so far this season with a 1.50 ERA in his two appearances pitching well versus San Diego and Chicago. He was tremendous in his last start against the world champion Cubs allowing just four hits and no earned runs over six innings. Like Robbie Ray pitching well against Los Angeles, McCarthy was also solid last year versus Arizona albeit it was just one appearance. In that outing, he allowed just three hits over six innings. At the plate, Los Angeles has come out swinging the bats very well ranking fifth in the major leagues averaging 4.92 runs per game and hitting .258 as a team ranking them seventh. They have been really efficient at the plate to ranking third in the major leagues and walks per game as well as ranking ninth in strikeouts per game. Although this is a formidable lineup I like for Ray to keep them in check, at least enough to stay under this total.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs L.A. Dodgers

Oddsmakers have set the total for this game at 7.5 and for my MLB pick, I will back under the total with these two pitchers that have started well this season. This game could go either way in my opinion, but I think the value here is on backing the under.
