Cincinnati Reds

Mark Lathrop writes these up the night before the games start. That was his birthday, spent by the pool with a drink, so he's feeling especially good about these Wednesday MLB Picks. Belly up to the bar and wager with him as he cashes us tickets again to finish up his strong May.

A dog should have his day in Toronto on Wednesday, as the Reds should cool off Toronto in the finale of their midweek interleague series.

Tim Adleman doesn’t have a sparkly ERA or even FIP, but his advanced stats suggest he is worthy of backing at plus odds against the Blue Jays on this game. What peaks my interest is his .240 batting average allowed, 1.25 WHIP, and decent 34/14 K/BB rate. He comes into this game off of an 8-inning shutout performance against the Philadelphia Phillies. Adleman has been a fantastic prospect in the making, putting up ERA’s in the mid-2’s as he has made his way through the Reds minor league system in 2014 through 2016. Dude knows how to pitch.

Mike Bolsinger gets the start for the Blue Jays here and I honestly don’t know why he could be favored. He has only pitched 20.1 innings on the year and put up a 5.58 FIP. Even more alarming is his 6.64 BB/9 rate, leading to his 1.87 WHIP. Again, his being favored in this game is dumbfounding. I’ll be taking the hot prospect here at plus +134 on the moneyline, currently found at Heritage as one of my Wednesday MLB Picks.

Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals

This game features two struggling starters and bullpens that suck. Our MLB handicapper thinks conditions are ripe for at least one team to go on the offensive as he makes one of his Wednesday Picks of the Day.

Matt Boyd is allowing a .312 batting average on the year and putting up a 1.74 WHIP. He is not to be trusted, especially on the road where he is giving up a .358 batting average and has a 20/16 K/BB rate. Kansas City may get out of their offensive funk on Wednesday in this matchup.

Ian Kennedy is 0-4 on the season even with his miraculous .193 BABIP this year. His 5.25 FIP is indicative of how lucky he has been, or I guess unlucky as he has yet to win a decision. Kennedy has allowed 5 home runs in just 11.1 innings pitched in May and has given up 4 earned runs or more in each of his last three starts, while not making it past the 5th inning in any of them. He is not to be trusted.

With two pitchers who can’t be trusted I am compelled to take the Over in this matchup, currently found at 9 runs at Heritage as one of my Wednesday MLB Picks of the Day.
