Our MLB handicapper, Mark Lathrop (+12.11 Units in May), looks to keep the good times rolling with two picks that he believes hold excellent value on Tuesday's betting card.

Cleveland Indians vs Colorado Rockies

Our MLB handicapper spots an inflated line in Colorado with two decent starting pitchers on the mound. Read on as he breaks down how each starter has been on the season so far.

Rookie Rockies starter, Antonio Senzatela, has been excellent pitching at Coors Field this year. In that situation, he’s picked up a nifty 3.00 ERA over 39 innings pitched, and allowed just a .232 batting average. His ERA in May climbed to 4.11 versus just 2.81 in April, but he allowed just a .248 batting average last month. Like most pitchers I end up backing, Senzatela exhibits a split in which his batting average allowed drops as more leverage is placed on him and he is pitching out of the stretch. His BAA drops from .243 with the bases empty, to .220 with men on base, and .169 with men in scoring position.

Mike Clevinger gets the start for Cleveland in this spot, holder of a 3.10 ERA and 4.08 FIP. He’s running a BABIP of .238 which is below his career average and the reason for his FIP regression. Still, 4.08 is better than average and Clevinger has yet to give up an earned run on the road this year. His K/BB rate of 21/5 over his last three starts is also a positive. This is one of the rare occasions I’ll take an Under at Coors Field, found right now at 11 at BookMaker as one of my Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Minnesota Twins vs Seattle Mariners

There is a starting pitcher with a major flaw coming into this game in Seattle. Our MLB handicapper breaks it all down as he makes another Pick of the Day.

Hector Santiago starts for the Twins in this game and he cannot get lefty batters out to save his life. He hasn’t seen many of them this year (56.1 IP vs 6 IP righty/lefty), but who he has seen has lit him up. Santiago is allowing an insane .514 batting average and .971 slugging percentage to lefties this year. He will see quite a few good ones in Seattle’s lineup on Tuesday night.

It won’t take many mistakes for Santiago to be in trouble either. James Paxton goes for the Mariners and his DL stint did him no harm. He is coming off of a 5.1 inning, 3 hit, zero earned run performance at home against the Rockies last Wednesday. In the start before he hit the DL he walked five batters – a major concern. In his start after he ran a 6/0 K/BB ratio. Paxton is running a true 1.44 FIP and if he keeps this up will be a major Cy Young contender. I have no problem laying the run line here to back one of the best pitchers in baseball, and will take them -1.5 at BetOnline as one of my Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day.
