Two of the better teams in the National League are favorites on Tuesday. While that is not surprising, our MLB handicapper believes these situations are safe to bet with the public on the heavy chalk as he makes his Tuesday MLB Picks of the Day.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs Cleveland Indians

Our MLB handicapper likes Clayton Kershaw, as you should as well. He’s one of the best pitchers on the planet and Mark Lathrop thinks the price is not too steep to pay on Tuesday night.

Sometimes when you are in a funk, a few light bets on some warranted favorites is just what the doctor ordered. The Los Angeles Dodgers have won 10 of the last 11 starts of Clayton Kershaw’s, and finding him here at -153 at 5Dimes looks like a bargain when looking at a winning percentage that steep. Kershaw has been ridiculous in his starts in June, averaging 7 innings per start, allowing a .104 batting average, and carrying a 23/4 K/BB rate. One of my favorite statistics is that Kershaw gets stronger in the stretch, as he allows a .188 batting average with men on base and a .170 batting average with men in scoring position.

Kershaw will go up against Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer, who is behind Kershaw in every metric available. Bauer allows a .284 batting average against lefties and .265 against righties. He has a respectable 11.03 K/9 rate, but pairs it with a 3.63 BB/9 rate for a 1.48 WHIP. Bauer is outclassed here, even being a very serviceable starter. I’ll take the Dodgers here at a reasonable -153 for a small play to get my winning streak back going as a Tuesday MLB Pick of the Day.

Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals

Here we find another huge favorite in the Nationals over the hapless Atlanta Braves. Our handicapper believes backing a huge trend is the way to go on Tuesday night.

The Nationals have owned the Braves over the last 3 seasons winning an incredible 19 of 20 games against the NL East foes. In this game, they’ll face R.A. Dickey for the 3rd time this season, a pitcher that they have gone 8-4 against in 12 starts. Dickey has a 12/19 K/BB rate on the road this year and a 5.59 ERA. A high ERA is not surprising with the veteran knuckleballer, and I think that the 3rd time around against the Nationals he will get destroyed.

Joe Ross gets the start for Washington. I’ve faded him multiple times this season with mixed results. That will end here. Ross has earned himself a 9.71 K/9 rate against a 1.66 B/9 rate on the season, which has led to a 4.57 FIP and 3.53 xFIP. That xFIP number is what Ross would deserve if he would give up home runs at a league average rate. I could see that happening against this Braves lineup, so I will back him here on the run line -1.5 at -105, and add the Over of 9.5 at Pinnacle as two of my Tuesday MLB picks of the day.
