Our MLB handicapper has lots of trends to sink his teeth into at this point in the season. He's using the numbers to find us excellent value on the Sunday MLB betting card.

Chicago Cubs vs Baltimore Orioles

Our MLB handicapper considers a rare parlay as one of his MLB Picks of the Day, as he looks to add value to the first start of Jose Quintana with the Cubs.

This should be a soft landing for the Cub’s new pitcher, Jose Quintana, as the Orioles only put up 4.0 runs and a .245 batting average against let handed starters this year. Quintana has been the victim of poor run support this year, as his above average 4.01 FIP has only garnered him a 4-8 win loss record on the season. Quintana had a super-hot June, putting up a 3.21 FIP, .194 BAA, and 1.09 WHIP. He’s struck out an excellent 24.6% of batters he’s faced on the season thus far.

Quintana will face Ubaldo Jimenez, who was at risk of being DFA’d just a few weeks ago. Jimenez has put up a 5.96 FIP on the season and has seen his HR/FB% skyrocket from 11.2% last year to 20.7% this year. He is likely to get tagged here for a few runs, but with Quintana looking to deal I like the prospect of this game staying under the total now listed at 10.5 runs. That has me considering a rare parlay, which I will pull the trigger on and take the Cubs on the ML with the Under in this game as two of my MLB Picks of the Day.

Seattle Mariners vs Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox just sent a big message to their club and fans by trading away Jose Quintana to the Cubs. They are in rebuilding mode. Here they face a scrappy pitcher for a Mariners team trying to stay in the AL Wild Card race.

Andrew Moore won me an Under the last time I backed him, as he pitched 6 innings of 3-run ball in his last start. Moore isn’t going to wow you with electric stuff, but he does pitch smart and hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in his first 3 MLB starts. He’s allowed some dingers though with 5 in his first 21.0 innings pitched. Moore has limited the damage from them by only walking 2 batters in those games though – everything leaving the yard is a solo shot. Moore doesn’t have the name recognition, but he’s going to give the Mariners a start very similar to the current version of Felix Hernandez. Six innings and 3 earned runs allowed on average.

I actually don’t know at writing this who is starting for the White Sox in this game, Carlos Rodon or Derek Holland. I don’t care either, as each is a left hander and Seattle averages 4.7 runs per game off of left handers this year with a .260 BAA. With the White Sox in rebuilding mode and a motivated Seattle team coming in with a solid starter, I’ll take the Mariners here on the moneyline as one of my Sunday MLB Picks of the Day.
