It looks like our MLB handicapper is going streaking, as he attempts to continue his good vibes with his Sunday MLB Picks of the Day!

Kansas City Royals vs Houston Astros

Nathan Karns comes to Kansas City after a stint in Seattle where he bounced between the rotation and the bullpen. A fly ball specialist, Karns should be especially effective in Kaufmann Stadium.

Nathan Karns has a great curveball when it is on, and his tendencies to induce weak fly balls makes him an asset in parks with spacious confines – or with teams that have excellent outfield defense such as the Kansas City Royals. In this spot he is pitching in Houston, albeit in April, so one has to be cautious of how his talents play to the home team.

Luckily for Karns, he has had excellent individual success against the Astros lineup so far in his career. Only Josh Reddick has put up a decent slugging percentage of .750 off of Karns, with the rest of the lineup sitting below .500 slugging percentage – and with 2 career hits or less against the 6’ 3” right-hander. Starter for the Astros, Lance McCullers, doesn’t have much of a history with the Royals at this point. So we are taking a proven commodity against an unproven one at this point. With the odds heavily in favor of the home team, I like Kansas City to keep it close and will take the +1.5 runs at -115 at Pinnacle as one of my Sunday MLB Picks.

Cleveland Indians vs Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks are off to a hot start, yet find themselves as serious home underdogs against the AL Cleveland Indians. All the Diamondbacks need to do is keep it close for the run line to return nearly even money on Sunday.

Starting for the home underdog Diamondbacks is off and on pitcher, Pat Corbin, who has put up some excellent seasons along with some stinkers. He was 14-8 in 2013 with a 3.41 ERA, yet followed that up with a 5-13 campaign in 2016 with a 5.15 ERA. Corbin’s issues revolve around command, and when he can find the strike zone with regularity he can be very effective. Last year his BB/9 jumped to 3.82 vs. 1.80 in 2015 with disastrous results.

Corbin’s first start of 2017 was marred by defensive errors, and the lefty didn’t last more than 4 innings while only giving up two earned runs. He walked two batters of 22 faced.

Corey Kluber comes into this game after getting lit up in Texas for 5 ER and 3 dingers over 6 innings in his first 2017 start. He won’t have nearly the lineup to face in Arizona, but he’ll also have to bat as a National League pitcher. That is not exactly the situation where Kluber can dial in the issues he had in his last game. I’m going to take the steep home underdog here to get spotted a run, with Arizona +1.5 runs -115 at 5Dimes another Sunday MLB Pick.
