The New York Yankees are at their best offensively when playing on the road versus left-handed pitching, which will lead them to a victory against the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night.

Lopsided Results
New York has been outscored by a lopsided 55-28 margin in dropping seven of 10 meetings against Baltimore this season, which includes an 11-3 setback as +108 road underdogs Monday, while going OVER the betting total for just the second time in eight contests.

The Yankees have surrendered the most home runs in the league, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB betting odds, considering the Orioles lead all teams with 150 round trippers.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 84-66 versus left-handed starters, with the UNDER going 79-68-3 in that situation.

Creating Some Breathing Room
Baltimore owns a six and seven-game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays and Yankees respectively in the American League East standings, which is important to acknowledge when making your MLB predictions.

However, the club is dealing with some key injuries. Orioles third baseman Manny Machado (doubtful) left last night’s game with a knee injury, while shortstop (thumb) missed a second consecutive game with a sprained left thumb.

MLB handicappers will find that the squad is 12-7 as home favorites of -125 to -150, with no clear edge in terms of the betting total (9-9-1 Over/Under).

Greene
Yankees starting pitcher Shane Greene (3-1, 2.89 ERA) will be making his seventh MLB start and eighth appearance, as he picked up a 1-0 home victory over the Detroit Tigers last time out—allowing just five hits over eight shutout innings.

The right-hander is one of only four rookie pitchers this season to produce two-or-more scoreless starts of at least seven frames, while it’s important to point out that no New York first-year thrower has produced three such outings since 2003.

Greene registered a 3-0 road win over the Orioles on July 12, as he scattered four hits and struck out nine batters in not allowing a run in 7.1 frames.

Chen
Orioles starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen (12-4, 3.90 ERA) had his personal five-game win streak snapped last time out, as he gave up four runs and eight hits over five innings of work in a 5-1 road defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The left-hander is 6-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 12 home appearances—serving up 10 home runs in 74 combined frames.

In eight career starts versus the Yankees, Chen has compiled a 2-3 record and 5.76 ERA, but he did earn a win in his only outing against them this season on April 8 in the Bronx (5 IP, 4 ER).

Prediction
I’m going to recommend that readers back the Yankees as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve averaged 5.7 runs when facing left-handed pitchers on the road during the 2014 campaign.
