Los Angeles is drawing the chalk line on Saturday's baseball betting board, and the Dodgers are hopeful Zack Greinke can help them even their series against the San Diego Padres.

San Francisco is heating up in the race for the NL West title following a 6-14 stretch from late-July into mid-August. The Los Angeles will look to keep the Giants 3.5 games behind them on Saturday with a series-leveling victory in San Diego over the Padres.

MLB odds for the clash favor the Dodgers doing just that in the 8:40 PM (ET) start at Petco Park. Zack Greinke takes the ball from LA manager Don Mattingly, and backing the 11-year veteran to pick up his 14th dubya of the campaign will set bettors back about $1.40.

Ian Kennedy will be out to even his season mark at 11-11, the take-back on him and the Pads in the mid-to-upper +120s and sports books offering both 6.5 and 7 run totals.

Dodgers Might Miss Ramirez In Saturday's Lineup
The teams worked late into the night in Friday's series opener before Yasmani Grandal ended matters with a 12th-inning RBI single to give the Padres a 3-2 win. San Diego closed as a very slight favorite and extended its win streak to three.

Los Angeles still leads the season series 9-5 and stands 4-3 at Petco. This is the final series of year between the clubs in San Diego where totals have now run 1-6 (O/U). They'll meet one more time little more than a week from now in Los Angeles where the Dodgers have won five of the seven 2014 clashes.

Adding injury to insult for LA in the Game 1 setback, shortstop Hanley Ramirez hobbled off the field after eight innings with some groin soreness. Ramirez plated both of the Dodgers' runs with a blast earlier that inning, and was just activated earlier this week from the DL due to a strained oblique.

Greinke, Kennedy Meet For 2nd Time
A couple of days off this week has allowed Mattingly to give his rotation some extra rest, with Zack Greinke taking the mound for the first time in a week after having eight days between starts before that due to a tender elbow. Greinke managed to pick up his first win of August following the extended rest, but definitely was not on his A game with the Mets reaching him for nine hits -- 2 of them homers -- and four runs in the 7-4 Dodgers win.

The 30-year-old righthander saw the Padres once this season, beating them at Petco in his 2014 debut with five innings of 2-hit, 2-run baseball. Since he joined the Dodgers in 2013, Los Angeles is a perfect 5-0 in Greinke's assignments vs. San Diego while he has rolled up a 1.80 ERA.

Kennedy was the loser in that April 1 start vs. Greinke and the Dodgers, and he has since faced them three more times with the Padres 1-2 in those efforts. The former Southern Cal standout is 0-2 vs. Los Angeles this season with a 4.70 ERA and only one of the four assignments going into the quality start column.

Two of the batters in the LA lineup that have given Kennedy trouble over the years are Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford. That pair is a combined 19-for-57 (.333) with Ethier taking Kennedy deep twice along the way.

Umpire Notes, Final Thoughts & A Free Pick
Greinke and Kennedy will both be out to impress 8-year veteran umpire Todd Tichenor in Saturday's battle. Tichenor got off to a good 'over' lean his first 16 plate assignments (11-4-1 O/U/P), but seven of rhe last 10 failed to reach the total. The Lincoln, NE native has seen Kennedy twice this season, both of those starts on the road for the Padres pitcher and the totals splitting.

Neither hurler is in what you'd call great form right now, but I keep coming back to the season trend for these matchups in San Diego, and that has me going with the low side of the total for my free MLB pick.
