Chris Tillman was electric when throwing in his home ballpark this season, which makes the Orioles an attractive MLB pick over the Royals in Game 1 of the 2014 ALCS.

Speed Kills
Kansas City has tallied more stolen bases than the other nine teams that have participate in the 2014 MLB playoffs, which can’t be ignored when making your postseason MLB picks, especially since it led the Majors in swiping 153 bags during the regular season.

The Royals have figured out a way to produce some timely home runs in October, but it’s still important to point out that it ranked last in that category heading into the playoffs.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is 16-9 as road underdogs of +100 to +125 since the start of the year.

Rolling Along
Baltimore surprised many by sweeping the Detroit Tigers in the ALDS, which is important to consider when looking over the future odds to advance to the World Series, considering the Royals finished behind that particular club in the Central Division.

The Orioles are known for their power after leading all teams with 211 home runs during the regular season, with Nelson Cruz being the main player to watch at the plate, as he’s left the ballpark 16 times during the postseason in the last five years.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise has compiled a dominating 42-21 record as home favorites of -125 to -150.

Royals starting pitcher James Shields has allowed six runs and 11 hits over 11 innings of work in the playoffs, as he comes off an 8-3 series-clinching victory over the Los Angeles Angels Sunday.

The right-hander put together a tremendous 10-2 record and 2.97 ERA in 19 road games during the regular season, but he did surrendering 16 home runs in 124.1 combined frames.

Shields went 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA in two starts against the Orioles in 2014, while he’s gone 7-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 13 lifetime efforts at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman earned a 12-3 home victory against the Tigers last Thursday, as he gave up two solo home runs and four hits over five innings of work.

The right-hander went 5-5 with a 2.54 ERA in 18 home outings during the regular season—the second-best single-season ERA in the history of this ballpark (min. 5 starts).

In five lifetime appearances versus the Royals, Tillman has produced a 2-2 record and 6.21 ERA, but he did come away with a 4-0 complete game road victory against them on May 16.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Orioles as their top pick in the opening game of the 2014 ALCS, as they’ve captured Tillman’s last eight starts as a favorite.
