Pick Tigers As Zimmermann Will Snap Slump vs. Athletics

With both teams coming in off of losses, MLB odds have made Tigers a home favorite vs. visiting A's. Will they be able to do just that or will Oakland stop their two game losing streak?

MLB odds boards have made Detroit a strong -156 favorite like at Bet Online. For one my MLB picks I am going to back the home Tigers to have a break out day. They have been struggling at the plate in their last few games but are simply too good in my opinion to continue slumping.

Oakland Athletics
Kendall Graveman takes the mound for Oakland and comes in with a 2.04 ERA and 0.91 whip on the season but was subpar against Detroit last year. Graveman is a pretty good young pitcher but his overall numbers are only just average his last three seasons.

In his last three years he has an ERA just over 4.00 in on the road batters are hitting .291 against him. Last year against Detroit they knocked him around a little bit putting up eight hits and three runs in six innings against him.

On the offensive side Oakland has been one of the worst teams in the league averaging just 3.50 runs per game with a .237 batting average both of which ranks them in the bottom 10 of the major leagues.

As well, they have not found easy ways to get on base ranking last in the major leagues in walks. However, they don't strike out a lot ranking sixth in the league and they rank in the middle of the league averaging just over eight hits a game. Today though will be tough for them against a pitcher who has been lights out so far this season.

Detroit Tigers
Jordan Zimmermann takes the mound for Detroit and comes in with a 0.00 ERA and 1.09 whip on the season but has never pitched against Oakland. This was a great pickup for the Tigers as Zimmermann has been consistent in his seven years in the major leagues with a 3.26 ERA and 1.16 whip.

He has been a bit banged up in the past but his overall numbers are excellent adn this season he has been tremendous against three pretty good hitting teams in the Yankees, Pirates, and Royals.

Detroit is one of the better hitting teams in the league but have been slumping recently so head coach Brad Ausmus kept out Miguel Cabrera and Justin Upton from the lineup yesterday.

With those two back in the lineup today and with Zimmermann on the mound I expect Detroit to come out with a little bit of fire right from the get-go. Although the number is a bit high I think this is a good spot to go ahead and lay it with a Detroit team that is overdue.

Even with their most recent slump Detroit is still hitting .254 as a team in averaging 4.31 runs per game both of which rank in the better part of the league.
