When the A's meet the Twins I think we have an underrated pitching matchup with Graveman and Santiago. It seems to me odds makers have made this total just a bit too high in this matchup so we can take a look at backing the under.

Oakland Athletics

Kendall Graveman gets the start for Oakland and comes in so far with a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 whip on the season. He’s been very solid in his for outings allowing a total of just six earned runs in 24 innings of work and I look for him to keep Minnesota low in the numbers. He seems to be hitting his prime but he still is little bit under the radar in my opinion so I think there is some good value on backing him to come in and pitch a good game to help keep this under the total. At the plate Oakland has been less than stellar across the board and rank in the bottom of the league in most categories. Currently Oakland is hitting just .229 as a team, averaging 7.44 hits per game, and garnering 3.64 runs per game good for 26th, 27th, and 28th in the league respectively. What gives me a little bit of pause is the fact that Oakland’s bullpen is not that great but this total is pretty high and I simply don’t think these teams combined will get to the number.

Minnesota Twins

Hector Santiago comes in for Minnesota with a 2.43 ERA and 1.15 whip, and like Gravemen is one of the more underrated pitchers in baseball. He is been really good on the season allowing a total of just eight earned runs in five games spanning almost 30 innings of work. There is no reason to think he can come in and keep Oakland to a really low number while he is on the mound. The only thing good about Minnesota’s offense so far this season as they do happen to get on base quite a bit ranking first in the league and walks and ninth in on-base percentage. You think that would amount to a considerable average of runs per game but Minnesota ranks just 18th in major league baseball averaging 4.39 runs per contest. As well, most of their statistics across the board rank in the bottom part of the league when at the plate. What gives me a little bit of pause, like with Oakland, is the fact that Minnesota’s bullpen has been less than stellar with a 4.11 ERA. Still, batters are hitting just .230 against them and I’m anticipating for them to pitched decently well enough at home to help stay under the number.

MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have come out with a total of 8.5 runs for this game and for my MLB pick, I will back under the total. I really like these two pitchers that are a little bit underrated so I believe they can come out and limit the offenses. In fact I’ll be looking really hard at the five-inning line when it comes out.
