The Los Angeles Dodgers are starting to feel the “Dog Days of Summer”, which will provide a major edge for the Atlanta Braves on ESPN’s Monday Night Baseball.

Avoided a Sweep
Los Angeles managed to avoid its first three-game sweep of the 2014 campaign, as it picked up a 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers as -149 road favorites Sunday, while going UNDER the betting total for the fourth time in five affairs.

The Dodgers are amidst 20 straight days without a day off, which is important to consider when looking at the MLB odds, especially since they’ve split their 10 games this month.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 8-12 as road underdogs of +150 to +175.

A Potential Turnaround
Atlanta is worth a look in the future odds to win the National League East division, as it sits just 3.5 games back of the Washington Nationals after tallying a 3-1 victory against them as -113 home favorites on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast.

Dating back to July 6, the Braves are a miserable 11-19, but it’s important to point out that they’ve been outscored by just 11 runs over that span.

MLB handicappers will find that the Braves are 11-7 as home favorites of -150 to -175 this year, with the OVER going 7-6-5 in that situation.

Kevin Correia (5-13, 4.94 ERA) will be making his Dodgers’ debut, as the team acquired the former Minnesota Twin to give its starting rotation a breather, with Josh Beckett and Paul Maholm both going down with injuries.

The right-hander is 3-5 with a 3.17 ERA in 11 road appearances, while he’s served up 13 home runs in 129.1 overall innings this season.

In 12 lifetime appearances (eight starts) versus the Braves, Correia has produced a 3-3 record and 4.20 ERA, including a 1-2 mark and 4.07 ERA at Turner Field.

Braves starting pitcher Julio Teheran (10-8, 2.92 ERA) has fallen in defeat in his last two trips to the mound, including a 7-3 setback on the road to the Seattle Mariners last Wednesday—giving up six runs and nine hits over six innings of work.

The right-hander is 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA in 11 home appearances, with opposing hitters batting just .191 against him (.265 on the road).

Teheran ended up on the losing end of a 2-1 result against the Dodgers when matching up with Clayton Kershaw in Southern California on July 31.

I’m recommending that readers back the Braves as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve captured eight of Teheran’s last 10 starts at this venue versus teams with a winning record.
