The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres figure to play a low-scoring affair with Wednesday night’s scheduled home plate umpire, which provides value for the road underdogs at Petco Park.

Roadhouse Blues
Arizona is mired in a eight-game road losing streak, which includes a 2-1 setback to San Diego as -108 favorites Tuesday, while going UNDER the betting total for the fifth time in six contests.

The Diamondbacks are still 8-6 against the Padres during the 2014 campaign, which can’t be ignored when making your MLB picks, but they’ve compiled a dismal 60-88 all-time record at this venue.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is 9-11 as underdogs of +125 to +150 when playing away from Chase Field.

Holding Down the Fort
San Diego’s pitching staff leads the Majors with a 2.56 home ERA, which is important to consider when looking over the MLB Odds, especially since the team has won 21 of its last 27 games at this ballpark.

The Padres are a listless 12-52 when scoring three or fewer runs this season, but they’ve put together a 54-19 record when putting four or more runs on the scoreboard.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is a respectable 32-25 in the month of September.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Josh Collmenter (9-7, 3.94 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 5-2 home victory over the Colorado Rockies last time out, as he surrendered just a single run and two hits over 6.1 innings of work.

The right-hander is 2-4 with a 6.04 ERA in 10 road games (nine starts), with opposing hitters batting .344 against him.

Collmenter has registered a 2-0 record and 0.66 ERA in two starts versus the Friars in 2014.

Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner (2-6, 2.37 ERA) hasn’t earned a win in 10 outings since April 16, but he’s had a pair of decent performances since returning from a two-month stint on the disabled list with soreness in his throwing shoulder.

The right-hander is 2-2 with a 1.40 ERA in eight home efforts—serving up just a single home run in 51.1 combined frames.

Cashner has compiled a 0-1 record and 3.27 ERA in two appearances versus the Diamondbacks this season.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Diamondbacks as one of their MLB picks, as home favorites of -140 to -160 have gone 2-7 with umpire Cory Blaser behind home plate since 2013. The UNDER is also 9-2-2 in Blaser’s last 13 assignments behind the dish.
