Our sports handicapping guru examines the 2nd of a huge 4-game series tonight between the Cardinals/Brewers. Make sure to read this revealing MLB betting article that’s concluded with a free pick on one of the sides.

Extremely Important NL Central Battle
The Brewers will host the Cardinals tonight at Miller Park in Milwaukee with the first pitch slated for 8:10 PM ET. According to MLB odds, the Brewers are a -125 money line home favorite, and the posted total is 8.0. This will be the 2nd of a 4-games series between the top two teams in the NL Central. The Cardinals have gone 20-8 in their last 28-games played in Milwaukee. These teams have seen 11 of their last 14-meetings in Milwaukee go over the total.

Lackey Settling in with the Cardinals
Following a lone shaky start with the Cardinals, after coming over in a trade from Boston, John Lackey has settled in nicely over his last 4-starts. In those 4-outings, the veteran right-hander has gone 4-0 against the money with a stellar 2.39 ERA. Ironically, the first start for Lackey as a member of the Cardinals came versus the Brewers. He turned in a solid effort during a 3-2 Cardinals home win, allowing 2 earned runs, on 7-hits, and in 7.0 innings of work.

Fiers on Fire since Recall
The demotion to AAA a couple of months back did a world of good for the Brewers starter Mike Fiers. Since his return to the big club, Fiers has gone 4-1 against the money with an outstanding 1.80 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP, and an almost 7:1 strikeout to walk ratio.

Cardinals Making a Huge Move
At the time of this writing the Cardinals had won their last 5-games in a row. That recent winning streak, coupled with some recent futility by the Brewers, has catapulted them to a 3.0 game leading in the NL Central prior to the start of this crucial series. The Cardinals have also received a huge boost by the return of all-star catcher Yadier Molina who’s been reactivated from the 60-day DL. If they’re to hold off the Brewers for the NL Central title, winning on the road down the stretch will be necessary. The Cardinals have gone a very good 43-28 (.606) at home this season, and just 32-35 (.478) on the road.

Disastrous Road Trip for the Brew Crew
The Milwaukee Brewers returned home to begin this huge series versus their division rival following a 9-game in 10-day road trip. Describing the trip as a disaster may be putting it mildly. Milwaukee went 1-8 in those 9-games, and it included losing their last 8 in a row. The Brewers no longer have just the Cardinals to worry about in terms of the playoffs. At the time of this writing, they held a slim ½ game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the final wild card spot in the National League. After leading the division for the better part of the 2014 season, the Brewers now find themselves fighting to just be part of postseason play.

Final Analysis
This is a somewhat tough call on the surface. However, when using simplistic reasoning, the Cardinals have the more experienced starting pitcher, are playing better baseball right now, and have done very well in their trips to Milwaukee in recent years. My lean will go the way of the road underdog in this one, so I'll advise you make the Cards your MLB Pick.
