We cashed in yesterday with a MLB wager in the opening game of this series as evidenced by our article at Sportsbook Review. Don’t make a MLB bet in Game 2 of this series tonight without reading our revealing MLB handicapping article pertaining to this exact subject.

Welcome to Petco Park
The Padres host the Cardinals tonight at Petco Park in San Diego, and the first pitch is slated for 10:10 PM ET. According to the MLB betting odds at the time of this writing, the Padres are a -120 money line home favorite, and the posted total is 6.5.

Yesterday’s Result
If you read yesterday's article which previewed the opener of this 3-game series, and followed my advice, then congratulations. I predicted the Padres -110 over the Cardinals, and San Diego prevailed 3-1 behind the pitching of Tyson Ross. The Padres bullpen was once again outstanding, and has now converted an outstanding 87.1% of their save opportunities this season.

Starting Pitchers Tonight
The Padres will go with right-hander Jesse Hahn. He will be making his 9th career big league start. The Padres youngster turns just 25 today. He’s gone 6-2 against the money so far this season with a superb 2.12 ERA. He’s averaging better than a strikeout per inning over his first 8 MLB starts. Hahn was called up from AA San Antonio earlier this season where he posted an excellent 2.01 ERA in 9-starts. This guy is far from a fluke having posted a stellar 2.29 ERA in 43 career minor league starts prior to his promotion.

The Cardinals will counter with right-hander Joe Kelly. The recently turned 26-year old enters tonight in shaky form over his last 3-starts. In those outing he’s compiled a lofty 7.36 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. Kelly has struggled in 4-starts on the road in 2014 as evidenced by his lofty 6.35 ERA and 1.88 WHIP.

Cardinals Offense Struggling of Late
St. Louis enters tonight’s game averaging just 2.7 runs per game and hitting a light .233 as a team over their last 7-contests. They’ve dropped 5 of those 7-games in the process of doing so. The Cardinals have seen just 37.7% of their 53 road games this season go over the total.

Padres Pitching Power
The Padres continue to stay competitive behind an outstanding pitching staff. Putting things into perspective, this is a team that’s hitting a paltry .222 on the season, and somehow is just 12-games below the .500 mark. An even better example of how strong their pitching has been this season is displayed by their performance at home. The Padres are 27-26 at home despite hitting a miserable .219 as a team. As a matter of fact, they’ve won 8 of their last 11 at Petco Park entering tonight. The Padres have seen just 32.1% of their first 106-games this season go over the total.

Final Analysis
The Padres clearly play with more confidence at home than on the road. I firmly believe they have the edge tonight pertaining to starting pitching and that was detailed earlier in this article. The general public is missing the boat here, as the majority of the money line betting picks have gone the way of the Cardinals. They’re on the wrong side.
