Two excellent pitchers square off tomorrow when the San Diego Padres visit the Chicago Cubs.  I am backing Andrew Cashner with my MLB picks in what possibly could be a real pitcher’s duel.

So Far No Good
...At least pitching wise for these two teams on the season.  Padres' pitcher Andrew Cashner comes in with a 4.09 ERA and 0-2 record while Cubs Jon Lester is at a 7.84 ERA and is 0-1.  Pretty surprising results from two of MLB’s top pitchers so far this season, and I don’t anticipate these numbers to continue.  MLB odds makers have come out with the Cubs as a small favorite at around -115 with Padres at around +110.  This makes sense with the buzz they have gotten this year and the bigger name on the mound, but I like the value on the Padres for my MLB picks.  A big factor for this is Cashner, career wise he has a 3.27 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, he also has impressive 2.76 ERA in month of April in his five year career.  Lester is as steady as they come with a career ERA of 3.61 and 1.28 WHIP. Again, I like the  value with Cashner though here as in my opinion he is just as good if not better than Lester in this point in their careers.

Phillies vs. Nationals MLB Picks: Bet Run-Line -1.5 (+105) in Game 4

Just a Bit Better on Offense
Both teams have high hope this year and many experts picked both these teams to make good runs this year, especially after the Padres picked up closer Crain Kimbrel.   On offense the Padres have better than the Cubs this year in pretty much every offensive category except on base percentage where Chicago is just a touch better.  From runs to hits to slugging percentage to total bases to average the Padres are better than the Cubs right now in the season.  To me this all sums up to a solid play, so because of the value, pitching matchup, and offensive statistics I am taking the Padres to win in Wrigley today.
