The Toronto Blue Jays have struggled in the month of August in recent years, which supplies the Baltimore Orioles a major edge Wednesday night.

Relying on the Long Ball
Baltimore ranks first in the Majors with 136 home runs, as it pushed its current win streak to three games with a 9-3 victory over Toronto as -104 road underdogs Tuesday, while going OVER the betting total for the third time in four contests.

The Orioles still have the worst batting average (.223) and on-base percentage (.272) in the league since the All-Star break, which is important to consider when looking over the MLB betting odds, but third baseman Manny Machado is hitting .360 in his last 21 games.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 20-18 on the road with a money line of -100 to -125, with the UNDER going 23-14-1 in that situation.

Team of Extremes
Toronto is now five games behind Baltimore in the American League East standings, which can’t be ignored when making your MLB picks, as it has been outscored by a 26-7 margin in losing four in a row.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons has been known to ride a roller coaster or two with this squad, as he’ll rely upon leadoff hitter Jose Reyes to right the ship offensively—batting .379 in his last 16 games versus division opponents.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is a forgettable 21-40 during this particular month on the calendar since 2012.

Orioles starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen (12-3, 3.76 ERA) is riding a personal five-game win streak, as he comes off a 2-1 home victory over the Seattle Mariners last time out—allowing a single run and five hits over 7.1 innings of work.

The left-hander is 6-1 with a 3.93 ERA in nine road outings, with opposing hitters batting .268 against him (.278 at home).

Chen was tagged with the loss in his only career effort against the Blue Jays on Sept. 24, 2012, as he surrendered five earned runs in five frames.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Drew Hutchison (7-9, 4.62 ERA) has put together a 1-3 record and 8.10 ERA over his last five outings, but he didn’t earn a decision in a 6-5 road victory over the Houston Astros last time out.

The right-hander is 2-5 with a 7.71 ERA in eight home appearances—serving up nine home runs in 37.1 combined frames.

In five lifetime games versus the Orioles, Hutchison has produced a 2-0 mark and 1.16 ERA.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Orioles as one of their MLB picks, as they’ve dropped their last five games versus left-handed starters at the Rogers Centre.
