Before placing your next MLB pick, check out our analysis of Friday's matchup between the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who travel from West to East, and the Baltimore Orioles.

LA Angels (Weaver) vs. Baltimore Orioles (W. Chen) (-115) 7:05 ET
After each team had a day off, the LA Angels travel from west to east for the beginning of a 3-game weekend set against the Baltimore Orioles.  The Angels finish their home stand on a 6-2 surge with a 2-1 win Thursday night vs. poor traveling Colorado.  Baltimore showed offensive prowess in a 6-1 Wednesday night home field victory vs. Toronto.

The weak-hitting Angels have just a .639 OPS, a full .129 percentage points worse than the .768 of Baltimore.  Sending Weaver to the mound is clearly not the answer.  For the year, he is 1-4 with a 4.98 ERA.  Do not be fooled by his complete game, 6-hit, 2-0 shutout of a Houston team whose bats were asleep in that series.  Weaver is still just 1-4 with a 4.98 ERA for the season.  His fastball has lost its velocity, being clocked at a high of 88 mph.  Weaver has long been a far better pitcher at home than on the road.  In his 5 most recent road starts, Weaver has a 6.30 ERA.  In 2 recent starts at Baltimore, Weaver has allowed 11 runs on 16 hits including 4 homeruns.  This aging veteran is a pure play AGAINST as far as your MLB picks go .

Baltimore broke out of their batting slump in a 6-1 home field win vs. Toronto on Wednesday night.  Playing their 9 previous games on the road, against the good-pitching of TBay, the Mets and the Yankees was a reason why they have averaged just 3.3 RPG in their previous 12 outings.  Now, that they have returned home, flashed a buy sign and are facing Weaver, they are due for a hitting explosion.  They will be well served by the pitching of Chen, who is having an outstanding season.  The fact that LAA has a .639 OPS will make it all the easier for Chen.  Though posting just a 1-1 record, Chen has a 2.52 ERA.  Even more impressive is his 1.09 WHIP, a sure indicator of success.  Chen has allowed 3 or less earned runs in all 6 of his starts.

The MLB odds underdog Angels’ superior overall pitching advantage is negated tonight in the Chen vs. Weaver matchup.  Look for the huge hitting advantage that accrues to Baltimore to be meaningful tonight, as they maintain their winning ways going forward with a continuation of this 9-game home stand, a period in which they will play 15 of 18 games at Camden Yards.
