Game 2 at the “Big A” in Anaheim
The Angels will host the Royals tonight in Game 2 of their ALDS with the first pitch slated for 9:35 PM ET. According to MLB betting odds, the Angels are a -153 money line home favorite, and the posted total is 7.5. The Royals took the series opener last night by winning 3-2 in 11-innings. It marked the 2nd straight win for the Royals in this postseason that came via extra innings. Last night it was a Mike Moustakas home run in the top of the 11th which was the telling blow. The Royals all-star closer Greg Holland came on in the bottom of the inning, and slammed the door shut on the Angels to earn the save.

Game 2 Starting Pitching Matchup
The Royals will send power pitching right-hander Yordano Ventura to the mound tonight. Ventura’s four-seamed fastball has been clocked at 100 miles per hour. The Royals hurler has gone 10-4 against the money on the road this season with a stellar 3.18 ERA. Despite a shaky outing in his last start of the regular season, Ventura allowed 2 earned runs or less in 5 of his last 7.

The Angels will counter with their bright young star Matt Shoemaker in their attempt to even this series at 1-1. Shoemaker has gone a terrific 16-4 against the money this season with a sparkling 2.89 ERA. As a matter of fact, the Angels youngster is a perfect 8-0 in his last 8 against the money, and posted an excellent 1.29 ERA in those outings. There are two areas of caution regarding Shoemaker heading into tonight. His only 2 career starts versus the Royals came this season, and he was 0-2 with a mammoth 10.00 ERA, and a horrible 2.33 WHIP. The other worry pertains to how well he’s recovered from a recent oblique strain that’s prevented him from making a start since September 15th.

Rolling Royals
The return of the Royals to the postseason after a 29-year absence has been nothing short of dramatic and spectacular. They defeated Oakland 9-8 in 12-innings during the American League Wild Card game on Tuesday night. Then for an encore, they were 3-2 road winners in another extra inning affair last night against the #1 seed in the American League. Winning on the road is certainly nothing new for this 2014 Royals ball club. They’ve gone a superb 48-34 (.585) in away games this season. The Royals have also won 8 of their last 10-games overall heading into tonight. We will place our MLB pick tonight on the Royals leaving Anaheim with an unexpected 2-0 lead in this ALDS, and with the series shifting back to Kansas City on Sunday.

Angels Bats Silent of Late
The Angels earned the reputation of being one of the most powerful hitting lineups in all of baseball this past regular season. Their formidable batting order includes the likes of Mike Trout, Josh Hamilton, and Albert Pujos just to name a few. However, they finished the regular season in an offensive slump, and that seemed to continue based on last night’s ALDS opening game. The Angels have scored a paltry 19-runs combined over their last 8-games, and they’re currently in the midst of a 4-game losing streak. The good news, they’ve gone 51-31 (.622) at home this season, including 41-18 in the last 59 in Anaheim.

Final Analysis
The Royals are a loose bunch playing with house money right now. They’re pitching has been outstanding in all facets, and are a dangerous young team oozing with confidence. The Angels are certainly a much better team on paper than the Royals for several reasons. However, the last I checked, games are won and lost on the field. There seems to be a magical karma, and feeling a destiny regarding the Royals right now. I’m going to ride with that momentum tonight, especially at such an attractive money line price.
