Our MLB betting consultant will cover Friday’s Subway Series opener between the Mets and Yankees. Will the Yankees be able to halt the Met's winning streak?
Another Chapter in the Subway Series
The Yankees (9-7) will host the Mets (13-3) today in the opener of a three-game series. According to the MLB odds, the Yankees are a -125 money line favorite, and the posted total is 7.0. The Mets are 4-0 in the last four at Yankees Stadium, and have gone 6-2 overall versus the Bronx Bombers since the start of the 2013 season.
The Mets will send 26-year old right-hander Jacob DeGrom to the mound on Friday. DeGrom has been superb in his first three starts of the 2015 MLB season, posting an excellent 0.93 ERA, and has compiled just shy of a 6:1 strikeout to walk ratio. DeGrom made his MLB debut on 5/15/2014 at Citi Field against the Yankees, and it was certainly a memorable one for the native Floridian. He went 7.0 innings, allowed just four hits, and struck out six. Unfortunately, the Mets came up on the short end of a 1-0 score.
The Yankees Michael Pineda will make his first career start versus the New York Mets on Friday. Pineda is 3-0 in his team starts this season despite posting a lofty 5.00 ERA in those outings. The bad news for Pineda is that he’s allowed 22-hits in 18.0 innings. On the positive side, he’s compiled a terrific 10:1 strikeout to walk ratio during those three starts.
Sizzling Hot Mets
The New York Mets began the season by going 2-3 in their first five games. Since that time, they’ve won eleven consecutive games in a row. The Mets just completed a perfect 10-0 home stand with a 6-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. All three of their losses this season have come on the road. The Mets are averaging a robust 5.6 runs per game in the previous eight, and betting over the total has gone 10-3-1 in their last fourteen.
Yankees Building Momentum
The Yankees began the 2015 MLB campaign by going 3-6 in their first nine games. However, since that time they’ve gone 7-3, and that includes winning seven of their previous eight. They also just completed a three game sweep at Tiger Stadium in Detroit with a 2-1 win on Thursday. The Yankees are averaging 5.5 runs per game this season, and have hit a robust 21 home runs in their sixteen contests. “The Bronx Bombers” have gone over the total in eight of nine games this season when they’re -100 to -150 on the money line.
There’s definitely betting value in taking a money line underdog which has won eleven games in a row. Besides that obvious point, I like Jacob DeGrom a bit more than Michael Pineda at this juncture. My lean here is with the red-hot visitors for one of my MLB picks on Friday.
