Ross Benjamin hones in on tonight’s critical AL Central battle between the Tigers/Indians. Read his revealing MLB betting article which concludes with a free pick on one of the sides.

Key AL Central Battle
The Indians will host the Tigers tonight at Progressive Field in Cleveland with the first pitch slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to MLB odds the Indians are a -125 money line home favorite, and the posted total is 8.0. Going into last night’s game, these teams had seen all 6 of their meetings in Cleveland this season go over the total. This has been an evenly matched series in 2014, with the Indians winning 7 of the 13 versus the Tigers.

What’s happened to Justin Verlander
There was a time not so long ago, that Justin Verlander was one of the most dominant pitchers in the American League. However, the 2014 season has really shown a decline in the long time Tigers hurler’s performance line. In 27-starts this season, he’s posted an unimpressive 4.62 ERA. During his most recent 3-starts, he’s displayed poor form with a large 5.93 ERA, and a monster 2.05 WHIP. In 3-starts versus the Indians this season, Verlander has a lofty 1.61 WHIP.

Salazar Finding his Groove
The Indians starter Danny Salazar has shown superb form over his last 3-starts by posting a 1.69 ERA, and all 3 of those outings stayed under the total. The Indians hurler has gone 7-3 in his last 10 against the money including 4-1 at home.

Underachieving but still Dangerous
It’s very difficult to put a label of underachieving on a team that’s contending for a division title in September, but that’s exactly the tag the Tigers have worn for over the last 2-months. However, if they’re fortunate to be in the postseason parade, I doubt there will be any teams that will be happy about having to face them at crunch time. This is a team that’s been built from top to bottom to succeed in October. The Tigers have actually been better on the road (40-32/.556) than at home (35-30/.538) in 2014.

The Indians Battling to Stay Alive
Believe it or not the Cleveland Indians are still very much in contention for a wild card spot in the American League. They entered last night’s game just 4.0 games behind the Tigers for the final wild card spot. The Indians have gone a very good 39-26 (.600) at Progressive Field in 2014. They entered this critical 4-game series versus Detroit having won 13 of their previous 18-games.

Final Analysis
This is an extremely important game for both of these clubs tonight. When assessing this particular matchup, I really like the form that Danny Salazar has shown recently, and I just can’t trust Justin Verlander right now. It’s imperative that the Indians at least hold serve in this series at the very worst, in order to keep their postseason aspirations alive.
