The New York Yankees may suffer an early season letdown Tuesday night, as they prepare to open up a two-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Yankee Stadium. Find out why we are going against the MLB odds tonight.

Let’s take a closer look at the MLB betting odds for this high-profile matchup, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Tough early schedule
Chicago has compiled a 4-8 record in the early going this season, as it continues to play a challenging schedule, with 18 of their first 21 contests coming against teams with a .500 or better record in 2013.

The Cubs arrive in the Bronx after dropping two of three games against the St. Louis Cardinals, including a 6-4 setback as +210 road underdogs Sunday.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is a money-making 10-17 (+150) as road underdogs of +175 to +200 the last two-plus seasons.

Injuries are piling up
New York ranks fourth in the league with a .271 average, but that number may start to drop due to the amount of injuries that are starting to pile up on the roster.

The Yankees played without their starting middle infield in their 3-2 home win over the Boston Red Sox on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, as shortstop Derek Jeter (quad) and Brian Roberts (back) are battling through ailments.

It’s important to point out that the franchise is 22-16 versus National League opponents since the start of the 2012 campaign.

Cubs starting pitcher Jason Hammel (2-0, 2.63 ERA) has opened up the season with a pair of victories against the Pittsburgh Pirates—allowing four runs and five hits over 13.2 combined frames.

The right-hander was 6-3 with a 4.30 ERA in 14 road games a season ago, with opposing hitters batting .276 against him.

In 17 lifetime appearances (11 starts) versus the Yankees, Hammel has tallied a 3-3 record and 5.17 ERA, including a 1-1 mark and 2.65 ERA in three efforts at this ballpark.

Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 3.21 ERA) didn’t earn a decision in a 5-4 home defeat to the Orioles last time out, as he surrendered three runs and seven hits over seven innings of work.

The right-hander has recorded 44 strikeouts and only four walks in his seven combined MLB appearances between spring training and the regular season.

Tanaka will be making his first career appearances against the Cubs.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Chicago Cubs as one of their MLB picks, as I developed the Yankees as a -180 home favorite in this matchup.

New York is 6-4 (-220) as a home favorite of -200 to -225 in its last eight opportunities, but sports bettors have lost money in that situation despite the winning record.i
