Rockies bring an 8-10 home record, while San Fran is 14-8 on the road. These teams have already met twice this year with the Rockies holding a 4-3 series edge in the MLB odds.

San Francisco Giants (Cain) vs. Colorado Rockies (Chatwood) (-120) 8:40 ET
All of that, however, is about to change against the San Fran team, who is looking to pull away from their opposition in the NL West.

While the Rockies have been floundering on their just completed road trip, the Giants have been ascending with recent runs of 13-1 and 5-0. Though much of that has come against the likes of inferior divisional opposition such as the Padres (6-0) and Arizona (4-0), why does Colorado not fall into that same genre? With new additions to their rotations such as Cueto and Samardzija, the starters have the potential to be among the best in baseball. Bumgarner has clearly proven to be an ace in his own right.

The question is whether veterans, such as Peavy, who continues to struggle and Matt Cain, today’s starter, who appears to be reborn, can hold up their end.  For the YTD, Cain is 1-5 with a 5.37 ERA. At one point, he had not tasted victory in 13 outings. In fact, he started the season with a 7.89 ERA in 6 starts, before returning to form in a big way. In his previous 3 starts, Cain has worked 21 IP to a 1.71 ERA with a 17/4 K/BB. While toiling in mediocrity in the early part of the season, he got ripped twice by the Rockies, lasting just a combined 8 2/3 IP while allowing 14 runs. Be assured that now that he is pitching well, he will look to make amends to those outings.

A first glance, the stats of Chatwood shows him to be 5-3 with a 3.02 ERA. There was a time when he had a solid history against the Giants, posting a 1.88 ERA in 5 outings, before being ripped in his last 3 times out vs. San Fran posting a 7.00 ERA. But, the greatest of the concerns for Chatwood is his performance from this mound, where he has gone 1-3 with a 6.65 ERA.

In what can only be considered our Dog of the Day, we line up with reborn starter Cain, the hottest team in the league with the San Fran Giants against the sub .500 home team, whose starter in Chatwood has pitched his worst from this mound. I invite you to put the MLB odds in your favor and join me in my MLB pick on the San Fran Giants tonight.
