When the LA Dodgers face the Colorado Rockies, we are willing to bet that the Dodgers will cover the run-line, providing us with ample profit with our Friday night run-line MLB picks.
LA Dodgers (Anderson) (--1 ½ R/+120) vs. Colorado Rockies (Butler) 8:40 ET
The MLB odds favorites tonight, the LA Dodgers, travel from Milwaukee to Colorado for the first of this 3-game set. Colorado has had a day of rest after being swept by Arizona in Wednesday’s double header by a combined score of 18-8. It is a battle of two teams headed opposite directions. In an earlier 3-game set played in Los Angeles, the Dodgers went 3-0 vs. the Rockies, outscoring them 20-6. In that series, the Dodgers had a .333 BA to the Rockies’ .170 BA. That increased the Dodgers’ stranglehold in this series to 14-3, including 6 consecutive victories. As they enter tonight’s series, the Dodgers have won 9 of 13, while the Rockies have lost 7 straight.
The Rockies got off to a hot start this season, going 7-2 to open the year (before that first meeting with the Dodgers). Since that time, however, they have returned to the Rockies of old, going 4-13. Remember, this is a team who totally tossed the towel last year, going 66-96. That was similar to the 2012 season, when they went 64-98. They are clearly fulfilling expectations that will be difficult to break the 70 win barrier this season. Sending Butler to the mound will do little to turn things around in this Starting Pitcher matchup. His 3.81 ERA is far from indicative of his recent 2 starts, in which he has allowed 9 runs on 13 hits, while working just 10 total innings in losses to San Fran and San Diego. Three of his 8 career starts have come against this LA Dodger team in which he has gone 0-2 with a 7.80 ERA.
At 18-10 and coming off a feel-good (14-4) thumping of Milwaukee yesterday, the Dodgers are playing to the form that saw them record 92 and 94 wins the previous two seasons. Sending Anderson to the hill gives LAD fans solid hope for this victory. In his previous outing, Anderson worked 6 innings, allowing no runs on 5 hits in a 1-0 victory vs. Arizona. Anderson pitched for the Rockies during an injury-plagued season of last. In 20 1/3 IP from this mound, Anderson owns a decent 3.54 ERA.
The combination of series dominance and current form makes this a solid play on the Dodgers. But, we can turn it into a real moneymaker, by turning LA into a “run line dog” backed by this solid history. In the last 2+ years, 80 of 99 LAD road wins (that’s 81%) have come by 2 or more runs, including all 5 road victories this year. Working hand in glove with this history is the fact that 62 of 78 Colorado home losses the last 2 years (that’s 79%) have come by 2 or more runs. Lay the runs and take the money for this Top MLB pick Play winner!
