The San Diego Padres have been unable to hit the ball out of the yard on a consistent basis in 2014, which provides a major edge for the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night.

Sitting atop the division
Los Angeles owns a 4.5-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West standings, which is important to consider when making your MLB betting picks at Petco Park, as it comes off a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Dodgers have won their last six series against the Padres, while they’ve compiled a 16-5 record in their last 21 games in this Southern California rivalry.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 68-44 when taking on a team with a losing record in the second half of the season.

There’s no place like home
San Diego owns the best home record in baseball since the end of June, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB odds & betting lines, especially since that success is due to the pitching staff owning the league’s best ERA in that situation.

The Padres are set to face a scheduled starter that’s allowed 25 round trippers, but they’ve managed to leave the ballpark just 93 times this season—ranking 28th in the league in that statistical category.

MLB handicappers will find that the club is a disappointing 5-13 following a day off, with the UNDER going 14-4 in those 18 opportunities.

Dodgers starting pitcher Dan Haren (11-10, 4.44 ERA) has won three of his last four trips to the mound, including a 6-2 home victory over the New York Mets last time out—surrendering a single run and three hits over seven frames.

The right-hander is 6-6 with a 4.84 ERA in 14 road games, with opposing hitters batting .280 against him (.253 at home).

Haren has compiled a 1-0 record and 2.31 ERA in two road efforts against the Padres in 2014.

Padres starting pitcher Andrew Cashner (2-6, 2.43 ERA) will be making his second appearance since returning from a two-month stint on the disabled list with a sore throwing shoulder, as he didn’t factor into the decision of a 5-2 road defeat to the Diamondbacks last Saturday.

The right-hander is 2-2 with a 1.39 ERA in seven home appearances—serving up just a single home run in 45.1 combined frames.

Cashner has posted a 0.96 ERA in four career starts versus the Dodgers, but doesn’t have a win to show for it.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Dodgers as one of their MLB picks, as Cashner is clearly missing some velocity in his return to the mound by striking out just a single batter in five innings last time out.

Los Angeles improves to 37-19 versus division opponents this season.
