The Milwaukee Brewers are preparing for their biggest game of the season Friday night, which provides them great MLB betting value in the first five innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Milwaukee enters this pivotal series 3.5 games back of Pittsburgh for the second National League Wild Card spot, as it looks to bounce back from a 3-2 extra-innings loss to the St. Louis Cardinals as +123 road underdogs Thursday, while going UNDER the betting total for the seventh time in eight contests.

The Brewers have split their last 10 affairs, which is important to consider when making your MLB picks, but they’ve compiled a dominating 87-41 mark versus the Pirates since 2007.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the franchise is 34-35 when MLB odds have them priced as underdogs of +100 to +125 when playing away from Miller Park.

Taking Care of Business
Pittsburgh has benefited greatly in facing off against the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies over the last week and a half, as it now aims to capture five games in a row for the first time this season.

The Pirates have won 11 of their last 13 series at PNC Park, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB betting lines, especially since they’ve compiled a 99-60 home record since the start of the 2013 campaign.

Sports bettors need to be cautious in backing the favorite in this matchup, as it has dropped 19 of 32 games versus teams with a winning record in the second half of the season.

Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo (8-10, 3.59 ERA) will look to snap his personal four-game losing streak, which includes a 5-1 setback at home to the Cincinnati Reds, as he allowed two runs and four hits over six frames.

The right-hander is 6-3 with a 2.76 ERA in 14 road games—surrendering just six home runs in 88 combined innings.

In 25 career games (24 starts) versus the Pirates, Gallardo has registered a 12-5 record and 2.67 ERA, including a 6-2 mark and 1.44 ERA in 10 efforts at this ballpark.

Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Locke (7-5, 3.66 ERA) has alternated wins and losses over his last four outings, as he attempts to bounce back from a 6-4 home defeat to the Chicago Cubs—giving up three runs and six hits over 5.1 innings of work.

The left-hander is 4-2 with a 3.60 ERA in 10 home games, with opposing hitters batting .246 against him (.260 at home).

Locke has put together a 2-2 record and 4.28 ERA in six career starts versus the Brewers.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Brewers in the first five innings as one of my free picks tonight, as they’ve proven victorious in 11 of 16 meetings in this rivalry in 2014.
