Saturday Night NL East Battle
The Braves will host the Phillies on Saturday in Atlanta with the first pitch coming at 7:10 PM ET. According to MLB odds the Braves are a -120 money line favorite and the posted total is 7.0. This will be the 2nd of a 3-games series that saw the Braves win the opener last night by a score of 6-4.

The Starting Pitchers
The Phillies will go with veteran southpaw Cole Hamels on the hill today. Hamels has been outstanding over his last 9-starts posting an excellent 1.86 ERA during that stretch. Although Hamels is subpar 3-5 against the money line on the road this season he’s pitched extremely well. In those 8-starts he’s posted a terrific 2.01 ERA. Hamels has gone 3-0 in his last 3 against the money line versus the Braves with a stellar 1.13 ERA and 0.75 WHIP.

The Braves originally had Aaron Harang listed as their starting pitcher for today’s game. However, he’s been scratched, and has been replaced by southpaw Alex Wood. The Braves hurler has made 1-start versus the Phillies this season and pitched extremely well. In that outing he allowed just 1 earned run on 8-hits in 8.0 innings during a 1-0 loss. Wood has displayed solid form over his last 4-starts posting a 3.20 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP.

Braves Back in the Saddle
After losing 4 in a row the Braves have bounced back nicely to win 4 of their last 5-games. Even with that recent 4-game losing streak Atlanta has still gone a very good 15-6 in their last 21. The Braves enter today leading the NL East with a slim 1.0 game lead over the 2nd place Washington Nationals. The Atlanta bats have really begun to heat up over the last 3-games scoring a total of 27-runs while banging out 33-hits.

Floundering Phillies
It’s become an all too recurring theme over the last couple of seasons in Philadelphia. After showing signs of life by going on a recent 5-game winning streak, the Phillies have now lost 3 in a row following last night’s defeat at the hands of the Braves. Philadelphia has now gone over the total in 5 consecutive games with an average of 9.8 runs per contest scored. Offense hasn’t been the problem for the Phillies of late as they’ve scored an average of 5.4 runs per game in their last 7.

Final Analysis
The Phillies will provide just enough offense for their red-hot starting pitcher Cole Hamels to capture the win today.
