Before placing your MLB picks on the home team here, understand that the Tampa Bay Rays truly have the edge against the Seattle Mariners. Find out all the details supporting our decision here.

Tampa Bay Rays (Odorizzi) vs. Seattle Mariners (Happ) 10:10 ET
The Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners meet in the 2nd of a 4-game weekend set at 10:10 ET tonight at Safeco Field.  Last night’s 2-1 Tampa Bay victory extended the divergence of each of these teams, leaving us with a matchup in which we can only back the huge momentum differential of these teams, aided by an edge in starting pitching.

Following an 87 win season of last, a similar performance was expected from a Seattle team who brought back the core of their starting pitching and figured to notably improve their offense with some solid offensive off-season acquisitions.  Yet, the .689 offensive OPS shows that Seattle fans are still awaiting the offensive explosion.  Certainly, that has not come in the last couple of weeks.  In the last 10 games, Seattle has yet to score 4 or more runs.  In fact, in their previous 8 games, Seattle has totaled just 21 runs and is averaging 2.3 RPG with a .222 BA.  This downward spiral has continued, despite 6 consecutive home games.   The MLB odds tonight & the numbers for Happ with a 3-1 record are a bit misleading.  For, although he is yet to lose in his most recent 8 starts, he has a 4.00 ERA in that span.  In addition, there will be little confidence when facing tonight’s opponent.  For, in 8 starts against Tampa Bay, Happ has a 5.35 ERA.

Far more eager to back the Tampa Bay Rays and tonight’s starter Odorizzi!   With a .655 pitching OPS, the Rays have the best numbers in the league.  That has certainly been helped by the work of Odorizzi, who has a 2.61 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. Odorizzi will face Seattle with supreme confidence tonight, knowing that in a pair of previous starts against the Mariners, he has a 0.69 ERA and a .140 BAA.  Last week at this time, the Rays were in the midst of a 0-6 funk.  But since that time, including last night’s 2-1 victory against Seattle, Tampa Bay now enters on a 5-1 streak.

Keep in mind when placing your MLB Picks that these are clearly teams headed opposite directions, as they take to Safeco Field tonight.  With Odorizzi in superb form the entire season and having a great history against this opponent, we are eager to make this play in a virtual win situation against the quickly fading Mariners and their starter, Happ, whose mediocre numbers belies his W/L record.
