While most people will be focused on the NFL on this Sunday, there's still a pennant race going on with a full slate of MLB games as respective series are closing out. See who we think are the teams to focus on for today as we provide you with our coveted MLB Picks of the Day.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox

Yankees Are Starting To Crumble
After an amazing season in which they got rid of the old veterans and managed to implement the young talent, the New York Yankees (77-71) have hit a wall as of late; especially in this series against their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox.

Boston (84-64) has won the first two games of this 3 game series in heroic fashion as they've come from behind late to steal these very important games. Now, Boston is sitting comfortably in 1st place in the American League East Division by 3 games over the Toronto Blue Jays while the New York Yankees are 4 games behind the Baltimore Orioles for the final wild-card spot in the AL with a cluster of teams ahead of them. These two losses have been crushing to the Bombers and they're the team that need's this game desperately. Are they up for the task is the question?

Sabathia the Savior
Although unexpected, veteran C.C. Sabathia (8-12, 4.10 ERA) has really come through for the Yankees as of late and he'll have the unenviable task of facing this young, talented Red Sox offense on national television.

Sabathia came up big for the Yankees in his last start in a 3-0 victory over a tough Los Angeles Dodgers team. In this game, C.C. allowed just 3 hits while striking out 7 batters in 6 1/3 innings. Although he's had one poor outing against the Red Sox this season, Sabathia has been hot as of late. In his last 5 starts , he's pitched a total of 30 innings and allowed just 8 earned runs. I look for C.C. Sabathia to pitch well here. Along with Masahiro Tanaka, Sabathia has been the "glue" that has kept this Yankees pitching staff together and still in contention.

New York has lost 4 straight games and we're getting down to the time where this is almost a "must win" situation.

The Future Looks Bright
The New York Yankees will look to lean on leaders such as Didi Gregorius (18 HR, 65, .276 BA) and Gary Sanchez (15 HR, 29 RBI, .318 BA in just 154 at-bats), but one hitter that's come on like gangbusters as of late has been Starlin Castro. Perhaps, this has been Castro's best season as a pro and he's been red hot as of late. In his last 25 at-bats, Castro is hitting .480 with a HR and 3 RBI's .In 54 at-bats, Castro has hit .333 against the Red Sox. He's suffering from an injury and is listed as day to day. Good players play with pain and the Yankees need Starlin Castro's bat in this lineup tonight. Look for the Yankees to break this streak as they've played too well all season long to let up now.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

A Team With Incentive
This is a clear case of a team with incentive in the Los Angeles Dodgers (84-64) that will be looking to sweep a team that's been an utter disappointment for the entire season in the Arizona Diamondbacks (62-86). The Dodgers have managed to embarrass the D'Backs and also beat their former star pitcher, Zack Greinke, mulitple times and this has to be satisfying as Greinke took the money and left L.A.

Los Angeles currently holds a very comfortable 5 game lead over the San Francisco Giants for 1st place in the National League West Division and I see them playing strong here as home field advantage is crucial in the playoffs and no team want's to play a wild card game in which the entire season hinges on 1 game.

We took the Dodgers yesterday due to the lackluster pitching of Shelby Miller and we'll keep riding the Dodgers here as they're at a respectable price, according to 5 Dimes Sportsbook, and this team is motivated to close out this series and start to run away with the division.

Joc Pederson
This is a Dodgers team with many resources offensively such as Justin Turner (27 HR, 84 RBI, .269 BA), Adrian Gonzalez (17 HR, 79 RBI, .285 BA) and soon to be NL Rookie of the Year in Corey Seager (25 HR, 69 RBI, .316 BA), but there's one player that has had the Diamondbacks number and that's Joc Pederson. Although he's just a ,.246 hitter this season, Pederson has "owned" the Diamondbacks as he's hitting a red hot .361 with 7 HR and 12 RBI in just 36-at bats against Diamondbacks pitching. Pederson played well yesterday and I expect it to carry over to this afternoon.

This Los Angeles offense might not be the best in the majors, but they possess great depth and great power and the D'Backs simply can't match the Dodgers where hitting is concerned. Add in the fact that Arizona starting pitcher, Robbie Ray (8-13, 4.55 ERA) has been ineffective at home (5.17 ERA) and also ineffective in the month of September (7.04 ERA) and I'm siding with the Dodgers in this matchup for my MLB pick.
