A late change to pitching plans by the Miami Marlins have delayed the MLB odds for tonight's clash at Citi Field opposite the surging New York Mets.

It was almost like two games in one Friday when the Miami Marlins and New York Mets opened their 3-game series. Miami built an early 7-1 lead in the contest, which closed as a pick 'em at Bookmaker, and appeared to be well on its way to the winner's circle. But as we've learned in the past, appearances are often deceiving as New York stormed back for an 8-7 victory, the decisive run in the tilt coming on a bases loaded walk.

Now the Mets shoot for their 3rd-straight win, and sixth in eight games, with a 7:10 PM (ET) first pitch at Citi Field. That offering will be delivered by Robert Gsellman while Miami shuffles its rotation and calls up Odrisamer Despaigne from the minors. The late switch on the mound by the Marlins delayed the MLB odds release.

This is the third series already between the Mets and Marlins, last night's loss still leaving Miami with a 5-3 lead on the year. Friday's final easily skipped past a 9 run mark, leaving totals in New York at 3-0-1 O/U/P. The Mets stand 19-6-3 O/U/P on the season while Miami checks in at 15-11-2.

Ozuna Has Taken Gsellman Deep Twice

This was originally supposed to be a rematch between Gsellman and Wei-Yin Chen before the latter was placed on the DL due to a tired arm. Despaigne came over to Miami last season from Baltimore and faced the Mets once out of the bullpen, the Cuban proving no mystery to New York hitters who scored three times in his 1.1 innings of work. He made five minor league starts before the call-up, posting a 2.49 ERA in almost 22 frames.

It's the third time Gsellman has faced the Fish this season, losing to the Marlins here on April 8 (5 IP, 3 ER) and taking a no-decision in the matchup against Chen (4.2 IP, 4 ER) in Miami. He's coming off his first win of the season at Atlanta this past Monday, but needed help from his offense in the 7-5 decision over the Braves. His toughest outs in the Marlins lineup have been Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton who are a combined 5-for-9.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

A relative newcomer on the scene, Chad Whitson is expected to don the mask for Saturday's contest. With just 14 plate assignments prior to this season, the Ohio native stands 2-1 O/U in 2017 with home chalk winning all three games. Whitson has never worked the dish at Citi Field.

A 40% chance for some early-evening showers exists in the NYC area, the thermometer expected to be around 60º for the start of the game with a 10-15 mph SSW wind (out to center). All five of Gsellman's starts have gone 'over,' and that's the way I'm leaning for my free baseball pick.
