After slumping in July and August, Aaron Judge is heating up again for the Yankees who are big favorites on the MLB odds Friday night at home against the Baltimore Orioles.

September has gone well so far for the New York Yankees who have inched to within three games of the AL East lead, and they’ll try to close the gap another notch when the long weekend set with the Baltimore Orioles continues tonight. The O’s send Gabriel Ynoa (1-1, 4.19) to the hill against New York’s Luis Severino (12-6, 2.96), the Yanks priced -250 on the MLB odds with 9 for the total.

Aaron Judge led a 4-HR New York barrage with a pair of 3-run clouts Thursday in a 13-5 decision, Bookmaker closing the Yankees -210 for the opener. The win left the pinstripe posse 53-29 all-time against the Orioles in their new park, 6-1 this season. It was also the 15th ‘over’ winner in 16 games between the clubs this year, a perfect 7-0 O/U in the Bronx contests.

Yanks 9-2 Behind Severino Since All-Star Break

Ynoa has had better results in the big leagues this season than in the minors where he recorded a 5.25 ERA and 1,40 WHIP in 21 starts for Triple-A Norfolk. Tonight is just his second start of 2017, and fifth of his brief MLB career that has spanned just 16 total appearances. The Dominican suffered his first major league loss last Saturday in Cleveland where he was pulled in the fifth having surrendered three runs. Ynoa faced the Yankees for two scoreless relief innings five days before that in Baltimore.

New York is 4-1 the last five times Severino took the mound, the 23 year old recording a quality start each time out and posting a 1.37 ERA in 32.2 innings. He has also won his last two assignments vs. Baltimore, a combined 13.1 IP with only two runs coming plateward. Severino has had better luck on the road than at home in 2017, with Manny Machado and Mark Trumbo a combined 8-for-26 (.308) with five homers against him.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Paul Emmel is expected to work the dish this evening, the 19-year veteran keeping things even this year with an 11-12-2 O/U/P mark in the totals column. Home teams haven’t had much of an advantage with 13 wins in his 25 plate assignments, but they are a perfect 3-0 when the money line is -180 or higher.

Muggy, a few clouds and a light SSE breeze (in from RF corner) is what the weatherman calls for tonight in the Bronx. The ‘over’ trend is too strong to ignore for my free baseball pick.
