Two strong right-handed veterans take the mound when Kluber and Verlander face off in Detroit. We are to take a look at the total for this game and see if there’s any value in backing the offenses to score more than enough runs.

Cleveland Indians

Corey Kluber takes the mound for Cleveland and comes in with a 4.19 ERA and 1.25 whip which is a far cry from his career 3.36 ERA and 1.14 whip. This season has been a bit bumpy so far for him including a rough outing against this same Detroit team three games back allowing six earned runs and eight hits over six innings. Normally I believe this would put him in a good bounce back situation but I like for the Tigers to go ahead and have some quality at-bats against him. At the plate Cleveland is starting to come around now that they are getting healthy and on the season are hitting .253 as a team as well as averaging 8.5 hits per game which ranks them 10th and 11th in the major leagues. They also are averaging 4.88 runs per game, ranking seventh, and really doing a good job in finding ways to get on base ranking fifth in the league in on base percentage. Like the Tigers, I expect for the Cleveland offense to have some nice at-bats today.

 Detroit Tigers

Justin Verlander takes the mound for Detroit and comes in on the season with a 4.60 ERA and 1.40 whip which like his counterpart today is a far cry from his career 3.48 ERA and 1.19 whip. So far this season he has been hot and cold having a really rough outing against this same Indians team a few games back allowing nine earned runs off of 11 hits in four innings. He has since bounced back from that bad outing allowing just two earned runs over his last 13 innings versus the White Sox and Red Sox. At the plate Detroit ranks in the top half the league in most categories highlighted by averaging 4.92 runs per game along with an OPS a .757 ranking them sixth and eighth in the league respectively. For the most part both of these pitchers seem to be in a bounce back situation but these two offenses are clicking right now and I’ve no problem thinking they can have some quality at-bats today and score enough runs.

 MLB Odds

Oddsmakers have come out with a total of 8 for this contest and for my MLB pick, I will back over the total. This number make some sense and although both pitchers have an opportunity to get some revenge from their poor outing they had the last time they faced these two teams, I like for the offenses to score just enough to get over this total.
