The Oakland A’s head to Houston on the heels of a 3-game sweep of the White Sox in Chicago, but the large sample size trends in this AL West series show that backing the Astros is the only way to go unless you hate winning.

MLB Odds Overview

Oakland A’s at Houston Astros (ROOT-Southwest, NBC-SCA, Directv 674 (US), 8:10 pm ET): Mike Fiers and the Houston Astros welcome Sean Manaea and the A’s to Minute Maid Park in Houston for Game 1 of this 3-game AL West series on Tuesday. Offshore oddsmakers currently have Houston in the -152 (5Dimes) to -161 (BetDSI) range as the Home favorites with the Total at 8½o (-125, BetOnline) or 9u (-120, BookMaker). The Run Line markets sees the Astros -1½ +130 and the visiting A’s +1½ runs at -130 (Heritage). The scheduled Starters for Game 2 on Wednesday night (8:10 pm ET) are David Paulino (2-0) for Houston and Jesse Hahn (3-5) for Oakland, with Brad Peacock (4-1) scheduled to face Jharel Cotton (5-7) in Game 3 Thursday afternoon (2: 10 pm ET).

Oakland Athletics

The A’s (800/1 to win World Series, BetDSI) are the worst team away from home in the Junior Circuit (12-25 on Road), and the way these Astros have had Oakland’s number of late has to be in the back of Manager Bob Melvin’s mind as well as the entire Oakland Roster. The A’s are a respectable 6-4 in their L10, but still with a -72 Run Differential (331 RF-403 RA) and 17½ games behind these high-flying Astros as we approach the All-Star Break. On Sunday, where Oakland (34-42) won its third straight, sweeping the White Sox, the A’s employed a Starting Lineup of: LF R. Davis, 2B Barreto, 3B Healy, DH K. Davis, 1B Alonso, C Phegley, RF Olsen SS Rosales, CF J Brugman with southpaw and Vanderbilt-product Sonny Gray getting the start and pitching wonderfully (7.0 IP, 2 Hits, ER) and getting the victory. Oakland’s 2-3-4-5 hitters each had 2 Hits in the 5-3 win at Guaranteed Rate Field in the Windy City in a series in which the A’s outscored Chicago, 16-5.

Oakland (150/1 to win AL, Bovada) is 5-0 L5 on the Road when Manaea starts, 10-4 L14 vs. teams With Winning Records but 1-6 Manaea’s L7 Starts vs. the AL West and 9-23 their L32 on the Road. The Over is 4-1 L5 Manaea Tuesday Starts, 10-4 L14 vs. teams with Winning Records while the Under is 4-0 L4 A’s games after scoring 5+ the previous game. Yonder Alonso (above) and the A’s has scored the 3rd-least Runs in the AL, behind Toronto (324) and Kansas City (292).

Houston Astros

Jose Altuve and the Astros (9/1 to win World Series, BetOnline) are coming off a nice week on the Road in which AL West-leading Houston (29-9 on Road) W6 of 7, sweeping these A’s in Oakland and taking 2 of 3 from the M’s in Seattle, outscoring the two 45-32 and improving to an MLB-best 52-25 Record heading into play on Monday. These definitely aren’t your father’s Houston Astros (2-5 L7 Home). Manager AJ Hinch went with a Starting Lineup of: RF Springer, 2B Altuve, SS Correa, C Gattis, DH Beltrán, 1B Gourriel, 3B Bregman, LF Aoki, CF Marsnick with Francis Martes (2.0 IP, 2 Hits, 2 ER, 4 BBs) starting in Game 3 on Sunday in Seattle -- an 8-2 win which gave the visiting Astros the series.

George Springer and Houston (+225 to win AL, Bovada) are 11-3 L14 Tuesdays, 66-30 L96 vs. Teams with Losing records and 4-0 L4 Fiers’ Starts. The Astros have been the second-most (AZ +19.9 units) profitable team on which to bet in MLB to date, up a healthy 18.6 units. The Under is 20-9-3 L32 Game 1’s while the Over is 11-4-3 its L18 following a Win.

Houston Weather Forecast, Trends, Final Analysis & Pick

The Weather Channel forecast for Houston (84% Humidity) on Tuesday night is currently calling for Partly Cloudy skies with a stray Thunderstorm possible, a Low of 74° with ESE Winds of 10-15 mph, so, maybe a little damp with heavier air and noticeable wind at times. A’s southpaw Sean Manaea (6-4, 4.05 ERA) was 5-0 in 5 Starts before losing to these Astros last week in Oaktown, allowing 3 Runs on 7 Hits in 6 IP while scheduled Houston hurler, righty Mike Fiers (5-2, 3.81 ERA) has gone an impressive 4-0 with a 1.72 ERA after starting 1-2 with a 5.21 ERA and allowing an insane 18 HRs his first 9 Starts this Regular Season. Fiers hasn’t allowed a dinger now in his last 31.1 IP.

This MLB series has totally been dominated by Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Carlos Beltrán and the Astros lately, with Houston 21-5 L26 meetings (80.8%), 6-1 L7 vs the A’s in Houston and 5-0 the L5 times that it has faced Manaea. The Under in 6-2 L8 at Minute Maid Park and 4-1 L5 Manaea Starts while the Over is 7-3 L10 overall, with 38 Runs scored in the three games last week -- 2 Overs and an Under. With the Astros heading Home, playing so well and owning the A’s these L3 seasons, backing the hosts at the fair price in this Game 1 -- a game Houston (16-5 L21 Game 1’s) seems to focus more on -- is the logical approach.

Predicted Final Score: Astros 5, A's 3MLB Free Pick: Astros -152Best Line Offered: 5Dimes
