Our handicapping professional shares his top two league totals for Sunday’s action. Go inside to begin your season winning with your MLB picks.

Toronto vs. Tampa Bay
Toronto starting pitcher Marcus Stroman was extremely sharp in four spring training game starts. He posted a stellar 1.98 ERA and 0.73 WHIP in those outings. This will be the first time in Stroman’s young career that he’ll be active on a MLB opening day roster. He began last season on the disabled list while recovering from knee surgery. When he returned in September, Stroman went 4-0 in four regular season starts with an exceptional 1.67 ERA and 0.96 WHIP for the Blue Jays.

Tampa Bay will send their ace Chris Archer to the mound on Sunday. Archer was a first time all-star a season ago, and set a Rays franchise season record with 262 strikeouts. Archer was 3-0 in his three team starts at home versus Toronto in 2015. During those outings, he posted a dominating 0.90 ERA and 0.60 WHIP. Archer made five starts last April, and was very impressive in those outings, posting a microscopic 0.84 ERA and 0.74 WHIP.

This game has the feel of an old fashioned starting pitcher’s duel. I’ll have a lean toward a low scoring game, and one of my Sunday MLB picks will comply with that sentiment.

NY Mets vs. Kansas City
The Mets Matt Harvey has been terrific in his young career in April. He’s gone 8-0 in ten starts, and posted dominant numbers during those April appearances. Harvey was the Mets starter in two World Series games against Kansas City a year ago. He was solid in those outings, posting a 3.21 ERA, and a very good 1.00 WHIP

Edinson Volquez made two starts versus New York during the 2015 World Series, posted a more than respectable 3.00 ERA, and a 1.17 WHIP. Volquez has displayed very good form since 2014 during the month of April.

Pitchers are usually far ahead of hitters at this early juncture of the season. This appears to be one of those prime spots for exactly that to occur. Both of these bullpen staffs performed exceptionally well a season ago. I don’t see much changing in that regard. The current (10:00 AM ET) MLB betting odds at Heritage provides me with a best combination of number and price for this totals wager.
